The Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) held a meeting and exchanged opinions with game industry officials.

The meeting held at the Korea Game Industry Association in Gangnam-gu, Seoul on the 22nd was held at the conference, including Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hwang Hee and officials from the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, Neowiz, Nexon, Netmarble, Smilegate, NCsoft, NHN, Wemade, Webzen, Kakao Games, Com2uS, Craftton, and Pearl. Representative executives of major game companies such as Abyss and Kang Shin-cheol, president of the Korea Game Industry Association, were seated.

Today’s conference was held to express the government’s interest in the development of the game industry, and to gather opinions on the field for expanding the game market, including requests from the industry, and establishing a game theme park that can be enjoyed by families.

Minister Hwang Hee said, “In the process of converting our economy to non-face-to-face and digital, the game industry is emerging as a new food. In particular, in recent years, games have not only grown in terms of economics, but have established themselves as one of the universal leisure cultures of the people. In order to sustain this phenomenon, it is necessary to establish a healthy game culture and raise positive perceptions about games. As one of them, we can think of a game theme park that families can enjoy.”

Regarding the recently controversial probabilistic items, he said, “I will listen to the industry’s concerns about the revision of the game law. We will work with the industry to restore user’s trust, especially regarding probabilistic items.”

In addition, regarding the revision of the game law currently being debated by the National Assembly, the government will actively cooperate to prepare a highly complete law by collecting various opinions from the game industry and users.

Representatives from major domestic game companies also took a seat at the conference.

In addition, Minister Hwang Hee drew attention by saying that he is considering using private networks in addition to national networks to solve the plate issue that is preventing the Korean game industry from entering the Chinese market.

Minister Hwang said, “We will not only rely on public networks, but will solve problems in the Chinese market from various angles through personally secured networks. In addition, even if we reduce the profits of domestic companies to some extent, we will play a game about targeting the market through joint ventures with Chinese companies. I will share opinions with the industry.”

On this day, Minister Hwang also revealed plans for the development of the domestic game industry.
