Recently, rumors have circulated in the semiconductor industry that ‘1,500 people applied for career recruitment of Samsung Electronics at SK Hynix’. Earlier last month, Samsung Electronics attracted industry attention by announcing hiring career positions in semiconductors in 42 fields ranging from memory semiconductors such as DRAM and NAND flash, foundry (consignment production), and communication chip development. Until now, Samsung Electronics has been recruiting on a double-digit scale, but this year it is expected to be hired on a triple-digit scale.
Regarding this, a Samsung Electronics official said, “The exact number of applicants cannot be disclosed confidentially,” and “It is true that the number of applicants for careers has increased considerably from the previous year. The increase in personnel affairs can be felt.” In the industry, it is observed that at least hundreds of applicants have been reached.
As the semiconductor supercycle began in earnest, companies’ competition for talent was also fierce. Following last year, Samsung Electronics announced hiring up to hundreds of career positions in the semiconductor device solution (DS) sector this year, and SK Hynix also started recruiting careers on a three-digit scale. DB HiTek, which has been booming in the foundry, is also hiring. As such, securing manpower has emerged as an urgent task in the entire information technology (IT) industry, including semiconductors, and’salary inflation’ is expected to accelerate further.
According to the industry on the 14th, Samsung Electronics is currently conducting individual interviews with applicants for semiconductor careers who have been accepted in early February. In the DS division, the memory division, foundry, and system LSI are all recruiting.
In addition, the semiconductor research center, data information technology (DIT) center, production technology research center, global infrastructure general manager, and test system package (TSP) general manager are added to recruit semiconductor talent from 51 jobs in a total of 10 organizations.
Samsung Electronics’ semiconductor DS division selected hundreds of semiconductor workers as career positions last year. Samsung Electronics has been hiring experienced semiconductor workers from time to time, but from last year, the entire division posted recruitment announcements and began recruiting large-scale personnel. Samsung Electronics is actively seeking talent by holding briefing sessions for doctoral degree holders related to semiconductors at domestic and overseas universities. An official from Samsung Electronics said, “The US Micron and SK Hynix are pressing Samsung by announcing the development and mass production of new products such as 176-layer stacked (V) NAND.” Said.
The Samsung Group aims to tighten the rein of preoccupying talent by starting public recruitment of new college graduates in the first half of this week as early as this week. Samsung is the only one of the four major groups (Samsung, Hyundai Motors, SK, and LG) to maintain a college-graduate bond system.
According to the business community, Samsung affiliates, such as Samsung Electronics, Samsung Display, Samsung SDI, and Samsung Electro-Mechanics, are expected to announce the public announcement of third-level (college graduate) new employees this week in 2021. Currently, some affiliates, such as Samsung Display, Samsung Engineering, and Samsung SDI, are holding recruitment briefing sessions. Samsung accepts the application, screens the final successful candidates through document screening, online Samsung Job Aptitude Test (GSAT), and interviews. GSAT is expected to be in May.
SK Hynix, the world’s second-largest memory semiconductor company, also started hiring a large-scale career in the first half of the year. On the 8th, SK Hynix announced hiring career positions. Document submission is scheduled to close on the 29th, and successful applicants will be screened within the first half of this year.
SK hynix posted a job posting announcement in early April of last year. There are also dozens of people employed. However, this year, the recruitment announcement has been advanced by a month and the scale has also been increased to three digits. The business sites in Icheon, Chungcheongbuk-do, and Bundang, Gyeonggi-do are recruiting talents with experience in system semiconductor fields such as DRAM, NAND, and packaging as well as camera image sensor (CIS). SK Hynix’s career recruitment was also found to have been supported by not only similar companies such as Samsung Electronics, but also many employees of large IT and manufacturing companies. SK hynix recently suffered a measles due to complaints from executives and employees about incentives, and is struggling with ways to capture excellent talent.
DB HiTek, a foundry-specialized company, is also hiring in all directions this year. DB HiTek began accepting application documents for hiring-based interns on the 10th. In addition, the application of documents for career recruitment has been closed, and a full-scale screening has begun, and documents for new equipment engineers and Chinese sales careers are also being submitted.
