The National Human Rights Commission of Korea launched an investigation into the so-called’Jung In-i case’ in which a 16-month-old infant died as a result of the abuse of adopted parents, even after the police filed three reports and reacted passively.
On the 15th, the Human Rights Commission announced that it received a complaint alleging that the police had violated the human rights of the victim by poorly handling the’Jung-in case’ and initiated an investigation by the Children and Youth Human Rights Division.
According to the Human Rights Commission, the petitioner A filed a third-party complaint to the Human Rights Commission earlier last month, claiming Jung In-yang as a victim. Initiation of the investigation is a step that automatically proceeds when a complaint is received, and subcommittees, etc., will decide to dismiss or cite it later. The Human Rights Commission said, “Details are under investigation and cannot be disclosed.”
Jung In-yang died on October 13 last year at a hospital in Mok-dong, Yangcheon-gu, after being routinely assaulted and abused by Jang Yang. There were three reports of child abuse before death, but the police and child protection agencies returned the child to their parents without finding evidence of abuse.
The police opened a disciplinary committee and imposed severe disciplinary action, such as’three months of honesty’ on the police officer who was in charge of the case, and “reprimanded” at the head of the Yangcheon Police Station.
Meanwhile, the 2nd~4th trials of adoptive parents accused of abusing Jeong In-i, leading to death, are scheduled to be held in the morning and afternoon of the 17th.
