[휴먼에이드포스트] Baseball player Shin-soo Choo has renewed the highest annual salary in the KBO League with an annual salary of 2.7 billion won.

SK Wyverns named Choo Shin-soo first in the overseas group special nomination held on April 2, 2007. Shinsegae Group acquired SK Wyverns and succeeded in recruiting Choo Shin-soo as the number one baseball team player.

Choo Shin-soo entered the KBO League for the first time on the 22nd of last month by signing a contract for an annual salary of 2.7 billion won. Of these, 1 billion won was decided to be used for social contribution activities.

Shinsegae Group said, “I have been listening to the voices of Incheon baseball fans who want to recruit Choo Shin-soo since the decision to take over the baseball team, and as a result of actively promoting recruitment through the baseball team, we have signed a final signing contract.”

Shinsegae Group paid attention to the successful career, sincerity, and persistence that Shin-soo Choo showed through his 16-year career as a major league player. In addition, he appreciated the dignity of the Korean Big League, which showed on and off the ground, such as leadership within the team, reputation of colleagues, and continuous donation activities.

According to KBO, NC Dinos’ Yang Eui-ji and Kiwoom Heroes’ Park Byeong-ho ranked second with 1.5 billion won in the batter’s annual salary ranking after Choo Shin-soo. Samsung Lions Seung-Hwan Oh ranked first in this year’s highest pitching salary category with 1.1 billion won.

Suwon kt wiz pitcher Sohn Joon, who received the Rookie of the Year award last year, recorded the highest increase this season by signing a contract for 140 million won, a whopping 418.5% jump from 27 million won last year.

Lee Dae-ho of Lotte Giants, who maintained the highest annual salary position for the past four years with an annual salary of 2.5 billion won with an FA contract in 2017, gave the highest annual salary position for the first time since returning to Korea. In addition, Yang Hyeon-jong, who was ranked first in the pitching division’s annual salary for the past two years with 2.3 billion won, gave way to Oh Seung-hwan by advancing to the US stage.

Choo Shin-soo graduated from Busan High School and entered the US in 2001, where he played in the major leagues for 20 years, passing through Seattle Mariners, Cleveland Indians, Cincinnati Reds, and Texas Rangers.

He played in 1,652 games in the major leagues, hitting 0.275, hitting 1,671, 218 home runs, 782 RBI, 961 points, and 157 stolen bases.

He recorded the first cycling hit (2015) as an Asian batter, and achieved 20 home runs-20 stolen bases three times in his life, which is evaluated by the standards of the Hotajun. In 2018, he was selected as the first All-Star in his life, and currently holds the record for the most home runs (218) and the most RBIs (782) for hitters from Asia.

Shin-soo Choo said, “I regrettably ended the season due to an injury last year, but thankfully, a few teams in the major leagues made suggestions on good terms. However, it was always difficult to erase the longing for the KBO league in my mind. “I had a lot of thoughts because going to Korea was a decision to become a new turning point in my baseball life. I decided this was the right time.

Meanwhile, Choo Shin-soo plans to self-isolate for two weeks at the club’s accommodation and join the Shinsegae Team on March 11, when the self-isolation period ends. The SK (Shinsegae) team will play a practice match with Lotte at Sajik Stadium on March 9th and 11th.
