Huawei premium phone pana when procurement of core semiconductors is blocked

Reuters reported on the 25th (local time) that Huawei, a Chinese telecommunications equipment company, which has difficulty in procuring core semiconductors due to US sanctions, is pushing for a plan to sell its premium smartphone business. Huawei immediately denied that it “has no plans to sell.”

According to Reuters, Huawei is discussing the transfer of expensive smartphone brands’P’ series and’Mate’ series to a consortium led by an investment company of the Shanghai provincial government. It is reported that the sale plan has been internally reviewed since last September, and discussions between the two sides have been held for several months. The sale price has yet to be set, and the negotiations themselves could break down, the source said. This is because Huawei is still looking for ways to manufacture and sell high-end smartphones using Kirin Chip, an application processor (AP) designed by Huawei.

Huawei is under sanctions for its flagship business, communication equipment and smartphones, from being able to purchase semiconductors that use US companies’ equipment and technology without permission from the US government.

Huawei denied that “I know there are rumors about the sale of the premium brand, but there is no such plan.” It also stressed that it will continue to manufacture high-end smartphones. In response, the US information technology (IT) specialist GSM said, “Huawei has also denied reports of the sale of the honor brand,” and said, “We should watch.”
