How much is your monthly income… Consumer Report of Dong-Hwi Park, a delivery man who has also entered the billionaire

GS Retail and Genesis BBQ decided to expand the range of Woori Neighborhood Delivery (hereinafter referred to as Woody Deal), a walking delivery program for the general public, to’Chicken Delivery’. It is a service that allows you to earn’Albabi’ on the way home from work or after dinner and exercise at a nearby BBQ store. BBQ can be promoted as a part of ESG (environmental, social value, governance) management by reducing motorcycle delivery, so it is’one stone two.’

Woodil was introduced by the GS25 last year. When a user orders a GS25 delivery product through the Yogiyo, KakaoTalk order mobile app, the order call is delivered to the Woodil app through Food Tech, a relay company. ‘Woochin’ with the Woodil app just grabs an order call and completes the delivery on foot. The delivery radius is limited to an area within a maximum of 1.5 km from the GS25, which picks up the ordered product in consideration of delivery on foot.

Those who play’Delivery Alba’ in Woodil have already surpassed 60,000. When GS Retail first implemented this service, it set the target for 2021 at 50,000. Since it has already exceeded the target, it is expected that 100,000 recruitment will be possible this year. I met the executives of a large private equity fund (PEF) some time ago and realized how widespread “walking delivery” is. PEF executives in their early 50s’confessed’ that they installed the Woodil app. Why is he with a salary of hundreds of millions of dollars? The executive explained that there were two reasons. It is the first thing to try to experience the future of digital distribution in person, and it is fun to do exercise and get pocket money.

I wondered how much ordinary people usually make by walking delivery. In the case of Woodill, as a result of analyzing the top 100 users, it was counted that one person performed 93 cases per month on average and earned about 310,000 won. Those who are more specialized in delivering on foot were found to earn up to 1 million won. According to MG Playing, a company that specializes in walking delivery, the age range of delivery workers is the most at 35.5% in their 20s, and their 30s (25.2%) and 40s (25.2%) are similar. Those in their 40s or younger account for 85.9% of the total. The average income of walking delivery workers registered in MG Playing is around 600,000 to 800,000 won. Convenience store CU has a partnership with MG Playing, and about 30-50% of the total order volume (taking into account seasonal differences) is delivered on foot.

Delivery to the public is continuing to expand, focusing on companies that have made life and deaths in delivery speed, such as Coupang, Delivery People, Market Curly, and Mesh Korea. In the case of Baemin, he is operating a delivery program to the public called’Baemin Connect’. An official from Baemin said, “About 50,000 people are registered as of the registration criteria,” and said, “About 10,000 people are actually active Baemin connectors.” General people who deliver to restaurants through Baemin can deliver them by means of their own convenience, such as walking, bicycle, electric kickboard, motorcycle, and car.

Mesh Korea, a comprehensive logistics solution company that operates a brand called’Vureung’, is also expanding delivery to the public. On the 10th, Mesh Korea announced that it will reorganize the’Vureung Friends’ system, which is a delivery platform for the general public. It is a program that allows you to freely deliver on foot, bicycle, or electric kickboard at any time you want. An official from Mesh Korea explained that “the order was allocated based on the actual mileage from the place of departure to the place of destination,” and “the system has been reorganized so that orders for the distance that can be delivered are actually allocated.” The advantage of Vureung Friends and Bemin Connect is that the company handles industrial accident insurance even if an accident occurs during delivery.

Even though Coupang is accused of passing insurance to the general public in case of an accident, the number of subscribers is steadily increasing. Based on the number of downloads of the app on Google Play, Coupang Itz delivered over 1 million to the public, and Coupang Flex delivered early morning delivery to over 100,000. However, it is difficult to see these as real users. In the case of Coupang Flex, it is estimated that about 10,000 people are active a day. It is known that the number of Coupang Eats is in the thousands per day. Coupang has not officially provided any information in this regard.

There are two reasons why companies, such as Coupang, who want to strengthen their shipping competitiveness, put their efforts into delivering to the general public. First of all, the cost is low. Shippers have no choice but to prefer delivery to the general public with a low unit price. Even small business owners in online shopping malls often benefit from delivery costs due to fierce price competition. However, the increase in the cost of parcel delivery is inevitable, and in the end, it is a situation that can only make a difference by lowering logistics costs. The biggest reason for BBQ’s partnership with GS Retail is the cost issue. Market Kurly also started shipping to the public in October last year.

It is also the background of expanding delivery to the public that it can be a counter to the growing union issue. Although Coupang was successfully listed on the New York Stock Exchange, the labor issue will continue to hold back Coupang. Coupang, which employs about 50,000 workers, is a key target of offensive by labor organizations such as the KCTU and Union Rider. When it comes to organizing Coupang’s workers, it is the largest single workplace.
