According to the industry on the 6th, Hyundai Motors’ European subsidiary recently released a related video for the official sponsorship team Atletico Madrid, saying that it has conducted a special training using V2L, the external power supply function of Ioniq 5.
The video shows three famous players, including Luis Suarez, Jan Oblac, and Marcos Lorente, training on three treadmills connected to the Ionic 5 built on a soccer field.
The athletes performed training to head the ball thrown by the coach while running on a treadmill installed on a green lawn.
According to Hyundai Motor Company, the Ioniq 5 can actually run three treadmills with an hourly power consumption of 1 kW for more than 13 hours. It supplies 220V of general power to the outside of the vehicle through the V2L function, which acts as a kind of’auxiliary battery’.
An official from Hyundai Motor said, “If 70% of the battery’s maximum capacity is set to be used as V2L, the long range model with 72.6 kWh battery runs 17 hours, and the standard model with 58.0 kWh battery runs three treadmills for 13 hours. I can do it.”
Since V2L provides 3.6㎾ of power consumption, which is higher than that used in ordinary homes, home appliances and electronic devices can be used without restrictions in various external environments such as camping places.

It is also easy to use a TV, refrigerator, washing machine, etc., so it can be used as a household power source in case of an emergency.
In the case of a long range model, a laptop with a power consumption of 40W can be used for more than 1,200 hours, and an electric heater with a power consumption of 2,000W can be used for 25 hours.
One power outlet for plugging in an electric cord is installed on the outside of the vehicle as standard, and can be added as an option inside.
In particular, V2L is regarded as one of the popular factors of IONIC 5 as demand for car parking (car + lodging) increases due to the recent coronavirus infection (Corona 19).
On the first day of the pre-contract, Ioniq 5, which set a new record with 23,000 units flocked to it, is known to have recorded about 35,000 units in a week.
The external power supply function is also one of the essential elements in order for a car to take the form of a living space beyond a means of transportation.
The Korea Automobile Research Institute predicted that “V2L function will not only create a space for leisure and work activities centered on automobiles, but can also be used for short-term housing.”
Hyundai Motor Company plans to go one step further and realize a future energy life that can trade battery power and charge other electric vehicles through V2L.
