Hong Sang-soo, the third Berlin Silver Bear…

Director Hong Sang-soo’s new film’Introduction’ won the Best Screenplay Award at the Berlin Film Festival. Among them, actor Kim Min-hee directly sang’Kesera Sera’, which was a surprise appearance in Hong’s impression of the award.

With the 71st Berlin International Film Festival held on the 5th (local time), director Hong’s 25th feature film’Introduction’ won the Silver Bear Award for Screenplay.

At the awards ceremony held online to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus infection (Corona 19), Hong won the Director’s Award last year for “The Woman Who Runs Away” and succeeded in winning the Berlin International Film Festival for the second consecutive year for “Introduction.” He was invited to the Berlin Film Festival for the fifth time, starting in 2008, and the third Berlin award, including actor Kim Min-hee, who received the Silver Bear Award for Best Actress in 2017 for’Alone on the Beach at Night’.

‘Introduction’ is a work depicting the story of a father, a lover, and a mother, centered on a young man Young-ho, divided into three parts. Minhee Kim appeared in this film as an extraordinary supporting character, not the main character. However, in addition to acting, he participated in the work as a production manager and breathed closely with director Hong.

On this day, director Hong shared his impressions of the award through online. He said, “I was surprised and happy to hear of the award. I am grateful to the judges who watched the movie. I was happy to read the reviews from the judges. I would like to express my gratitude to the Berlin Film Festival.”

On this day, one of the short videos he released was one that drew attention from director Hong’s awards speech. Director Hong released the video, saying, “I found a small snail while walking with Kim Min-hee before. I want to deliver this small snail as a gift to all of you who are having a hard time.”

In the released video, a snail is moving on the road along with some voices of Doris Day’s’Que sera sera’ sung by a woman. The face was not revealed, but the song was presumed to be sung by Kim Min-hee, drawing attention.

Director Hong and Minhee Kim were engrossed in an affair in June of the following year after they struck a breath with the movie’Right Now, Wrong Then’, which was released in 2015. The two, who did not express their position on the rumors of affairs, appeared to acknowledge the relationship by publicly showing their affection for each other by attending the Berlin International Film Festival in February 2017.

In particular, in March of the same year, director Hong and Minhee Kim attended the premiere of the movie’Alone on the Beach at Night’ side by side, and publicly acknowledged the relationship as “a relationship in love.” However, despite the inappropriate relationship, the domestic public’s gaze toward the two, who have continued their dignified steps, is still cold.
