Hong Kong Media China’s U.S. Sanction List Undisclosed

China announces sanctions on 28 Trump administration officials, revealing only 10

Hong Kong Myungbo reported on the 26th that the Chinese government announced sanctions on 28 US officials on the 21st, revealing only the names of 10 people.

The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it would impose sanctions on 28 members of the US administration, including then Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Donald Trump.

The time when China announced this was just before the inauguration of US President Joe Biden, and immediately after the announcement of the list, he became a significant number of “former” bureaucrats.

The list of sanctions included Trump’s Minister Pompeo, White House National Security Adviser Robert O’Brien, White House Trade and Manufacturing Policy Director Peter Navarro, and David Stillwell, Assistant Secretary of State for East Asia and Pacific Affairs.

Former White House National Security Adviser John Bolton and former White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon were also on the sanctions list.

The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained that it has decided to sanction those who “seriously violate China’s sovereignty and are primarily responsible for the US government’s China-related movements.”

“They and their immediate family members are prohibited from entering mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau,” he said. “Companies and organizations related to them are also restricted from doing business in China.”

In an article titled’Who are the remaining 18?’ “You will know yourself well,” he said.

He pointed out, “It is very strange that China will not notify the sanctioned targets of this unless they individually notify the remaining 18 people.”

Earlier, the Hong Kong South China Morning Post (SCMP) said that when China announced sanctions against 28 US officials, it was interpreted as a symbolic measure, given that these are Trump administration officials who have left or left the White House.

Since they are not the newly launched Biden administration officials, there is no real impact on US-China relations other than the meaning of’beating the Trump administration’.

However, some analysts analyzed that China has sanctioned them from a long-term perspective, as’retrospective personnel’ are often executed in the case of high-ranking officials.
