Hong Kong blocks 200 buildings at dawn… “I will break the infection chain”

In the early morning of Saturday, the 23rd, the Hong Kong government completely blocked hundreds of old buildings in the downtown area. This is to prevent the movement of tens of thousands of building residents over the next 48 hours and to conduct a corona 19 diagnostic test. This blockade is the strongest measure that came out of Hong Kong after the spread of Corona 19.

According to local media such as the South China Morning Post (SCMP) on the 23rd, the Hong Kong government blocked 200 buildings in the area around the night at 4 am (local time). Yao Chim Mong-gu is a downtown area in Hong Kong with Yau Ma Tei, Tsim Sha Tsui and Mong Kok.

According to the authorities, the more than 200 buildings that were blocked this time take the form of a residence in which one house is split again and rented to several people, resulting in a high population density and poor living conditions. Structurally, it is a vulnerable point where the spread of Corona 19 can spread rapidly.

During the blockade, the government dispatched more than 1,700 civil servants, including police, to the scene to prevent residents from leaving. Residents cannot leave the area until the blockade is lifted, and after it is lifted, they must present a Corona 19 voice certificate to leave.

Regional blockades have been made in mainland China, such as Wuhan, where the corona19 pandemic began, but this is the first time that Hong Kong has completely blocked a specific area and conducted a mandatory corona 19 test on all residents. SCMP said, “This blockade, which has designated mandatory inspection areas, is the strongest measure that came out after the Corona 19 pandemic.”

In a statement released today, the Hong Kong government said, “There may be short-term discomfort, but through this blockade, we hope to break the infection chain and restore business and livelihoods.” Currently, the cumulative corona19 confirmed in Hong Kong is approaching 10,000. There were also 168 deaths.
