The Gwangju civil society has clarified its opposition to the amnesty issue of two former presidents Lee Myung-bak and Park Geun-hye, which are being discussed recently. Eight organizations including Gwangju Citizens’ Association, Gwangju Jeonnam Women’s Association, Gwangju Progressive Solidarity, 6·15 Joint Declaration Implementation Southern Committee Gwangju Headquarters, and the 5·18 Memorial Foundation issued a joint statement on the 5th, saying, “Recently, Lee Nak-yeon and Democratic Party representative He announced that he would propose to President Moon Jae-in the amnesty of two former Presidents Lee Myung-bak and Park Geun-hye. He opposed the amnesty, saying, “It is in itself absurd to propose amnesty for issues that have not been completed even by judgment and liquidation.” They said, “With fierce opposition and controversy from not only the Democratic Party, but also from the people, President Lee stepped back saying’the consensus of the people and the reflection and apology of the parties are important’, but he said,’Loyalty for national unity’ and’I will watch the Supreme Court ruling.’ It still leaves the spark of controversy. Lee argued that he overlooked the fact that the arrests of the two former presidents were made by the power of candles.” They said, “The former president, who was sentenced to 17 years in prison for bribery and embezzlement in the Supreme Court, said,’The rule of law has collapsed. “I am worried about the future of the country,” and before the 4/15 general election last year, former President Park held a prison politics, saying,’I appeal to all who have heard the Taegeukgi to join forces as one.’ Instead of apologizing and reflection, there is no reason to apologize for those who are the enemy of the enemy.” The Gwangju Citizens’ Organization said, “If the ruling party’s representative really wants to unite the people, they should listen to the voices of the desperate people in the midst of a disaster, rather than two former presidents who commit crimes and do not know their faults. In addition to overcoming Corona 19, we must first take measures to resolve the polarization and public welfare problems that have revealed more unfamiliarity.” By Kim Yong-hee, staff reporter [email protected]
