[SBS 연예뉴스 l 강경윤 기자] The Christmas cake made by singer and painter Solbi was caught up in controversy over the work of an American author.

On the 22nd, Solbi revealed the cake design, saying she made a cake on her SNS. The cake he made was a free stack of various intense colored creams.

Solbi added, “I’m obsessed with making cakes in the baker’s room with social distancing these days. I made cakes my own way.” Those who saw it responded positively, saying that the cake is like a piece of contemporary art. Solbi added the hashtag “I also take orders” to the cake.

However, controversy arose that the cake design Solbi made was imitating contemporary artist Jeff Koons”Play-Doh’. It is said that the appearance of freely stacked with intense colors and rough textures is very similar to the play dough.

As the point continued, Solbi corrected the description of the cake. He added, “This cake was inspired by Jeff Koons’ play-doh work while watching children’s clay play. In fact, I didn’t know it would be such an issue.”

He also said, “For reference, that cake on Instagram is not for sale,” he said. “Like Jeff Koons,’everyone can be an artist’, I also converted this free idea into cake. He emphasized that he appreciated Jeff Koons’ work.

The cake’s SNS order account has also been added with a description. There is a notice saying that the sale is currently closed with an explanation of “a cake with plenty of art that is homage to Jeff Koons’ work”.

At the beginning of this year, Solbi was selected as a resident artist at the Gana Atelier in Jangheung, Gyeonggi-do, an artist’s creative space supported by Gana Art, a representative art gallery in Korea.
