[아시아경제 이춘희 기자] A highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI) occurred at a laying hen farm in Cheonbuk-myeon, Gyeongju-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do.

North Gyeongsang Province announced on the 26th that it was confirmed as H5N8 type highly pathogenic AI as a result of a close examination of the samples collected from the breeding hen farm in Gyeongju, where a suspected highly pathogenic AI was reported.

The farm is 2.1 km away from the place where highly pathogenic AI was detected in wild birds on the 2nd. It has 8,000 laying hens, and the recent increase in mortality was reported to the authorities the day before.

The quarantine authorities are currently controlling access to the outbreak farm and plan to kill 208,000 chickens raised on the farm within a 3km radius for prevention. In addition, surveillance and inspections are being conducted on farms within a 10km radius, and movement is restricted for 30 days.
