The Korean Medical Association, which opposed the law to revoke the licenses of doctors who committed violent crimes such as sex and murder, pulled out a’general strike’ card.

There are concerns that the government’s quarantine policy could be disrupted if doctors fail to vaccinate the vaccine due to a general strike, with the first vaccination of the Corona 19 vaccine ahead on the 26th.

According to the medical community on the 22nd, the medical association said that if the amendment bill of the medical law to revoke the license of a doctor who has been convicted of “a sentence of more than a safe” passes through the National Assembly Legislative and Judicial Committee, the national medical general strike will also be immortal.

The six candidates who are currently running for the election for the next president of the Medical Association have also pledged to immediately engage in an all-out struggle regardless of who is elected. The next chairman of the Medical Association will be elected next month, and the term of office for Chairman Choi will end at the end of April.

Chairman Choi announced that the moment doctors withdrew from work, there would be a problem in responding to Corona 19.

Chairman Choi said, “If the revised bill passes the judiciary committee, there will be no choice but to go on a national strike, and the general strike of doctors will lead to serious obstacles in the diagnosis, treatment support, and vaccination of COVID-19.” There will be no big setbacks as much as inoculation, but in the long run there will be a setback.”

Prior to this, the National Assembly Health and Welfare Committee passed an amendment to the Medical Law, stating that the licenses of doctors sentenced to imprisonment or higher can be revoked.

In the case of imprisonment, re-issuance of a license is prohibited for five years after the end of the sentence and for two years after the expiration of the probation. This means that the license can be reissued after a certain period of time.

Moreover, the license was not revoked in case of punishment for medical malpractice.

This amendment was expanded again by reducing the scope of the doctor’s license to be revoked only when the National Assembly received a sentence of imprisonment or higher for violating the medical law in 2000.

This is because there have been criticisms and criticisms that there are no restrictions on the licenses of doctors punished for violent crimes, and the issue of equity with other professions has been continuously raised.

The current law allows lawyers, certified public accountants, and judicial officers to revoke their licenses if they commit a crime and are sentenced to imprisonment or higher. A member of the National Assembly also loses his position as a member of parliament if a sentence of more than a jail sentence is confirmed.

In this regard, the Korea Medical Association refutes that it is not a law that protects doctors who have committed violent crimes, but that it is a law that violates freedom of work.

Chairman Choi said, “For doctors whose profession is maintained by qualifications (revocation of license) is linked to social and physical survival,” and said, “Because it is an unconstitutional law that violates the freedom of work, it will cause countless damages.”

He pointed out that “the government is discouraging the morale of doctors who have been supporting the corona19 vaccination during this critical period.

At the same time, he argued that only giving voluntary disciplinary rights to medical consultations could be the solution.

He said, “I am not protecting those who have committed felony crimes, and I have no intention of keeping the licenses of those who commit crimes such as murder, robbery, and rape,” he said. It will be managed more strictly so that it cannot be done.
