Hanyang announced on the 23rd that it had received approval from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy for an additional tank construction plan for the Northeast Asian liquefied natural gas (LNG) hub terminal to be built in Yeosu, Jeollanam-do.
The Northeast Asian LNG Hub Terminal being promoted by Hanyang will invest a total of 1.2 trillion won on the 650,000m2 site in Myodo-si, Yeosu-si. It is a project to build a facility.
In March of this year, Hanyang opened a waterfront to advance into the LNG business with the government’s approval of the construction plan for one 200,000㎘-class LNG storage tank.
The approved plan is to build a 200,000 ㎘-class LNG storage tank that can be traded overseas.
This means that it is possible to provide LNG storage and export services to global LNG traders, Hanyang explained.
The LNG storage tank approved in March is for supplying natural gas from the LNG hub terminal to the power plant using the pipe network of the Korea Gas Corporation, whereas the storage tank approved this time is for storing LNG and carrying it out overseas without going through the pipe network. Hanyang explained that it can be used as.
An official from Hanyang said, “With the additional approval, the Northeast Asian LNG hub terminal will become an open private terminal,” he said. “As global transactions are possible beyond storage and supply for domestic customers, we expect that various domestic and overseas transactions will be possible.”
