Hanwha Armored Vehicle Red Bag completed prototype first released in Australia

Compete with German’Lings’ in test evaluation… Selected as the final candidate for the first half of next year

A complete prototype of the next-generation infantry fighting vehicle,’Redback’ developed by Hanwha Defense, was revealed for the first time in Australia.

Hanwha Defense’s Australian subsidiary held a red bag public event in Melbourne, Australia on the 12th, Hanwha Defense said.

This is the first time that the actual turret of an armored redback vehicle, various armament systems, and sensors were assembled to the public before the three redback prototype vehicles were delivered to the Australian Army for test evaluation.

In September 2019, the Redback armored vehicle was selected as the final two candidates for the Australian’LAND 400 Phase 3 Project’ along with the’Lynx’ armored vehicle of Germany’s Rheinmetall Defense.

Australia is planning to select preferred negotiators in the first half of next year after conducting test evaluations such as vehicle performance and protection, thermal power, operator evaluation, maintenance and transportation from next month to the second half of this year.

The’Land 400 Phase 3 Project’, which introduces the latest infantry fighting vehicles to the Australian Army, amounts to 14 to 20 trillion won, including acquisition costs, training, various support systems, and construction of facilities.

Named after the redback spider, which lives in Australia and has a strong poison, the redback armored vehicle has a top speed of 65kph and a range of 520km with excellent mobility.

The world’s best special protective design and reinforced structure have been applied to significantly improve the protective power.

Meanwhile, at the event, a memorandum of understanding was also signed between Hanwha and Victoria, Australia to attract investment to vitalize the local economy, including the construction of local production facilities.

Hanwha Defense’s Australian subsidiary explained that if Red Bag was selected as the final candidate and the local production plan in Australia was implemented, it could bring about 7.6 trillion won worth of economic ripple effects across Australia, including Victoria.

Hanwha Defense CEO Son Jae-il said, “The Redback is the best-in-class futuristic infantry fighting vehicle in which Hanwha Defense’s technology accumulated for over 40 years is integrated.” I am sure it will be delivered.”
