Hankonjin game production support budget increased by 35%, where do you put it?

The game production support project conducted by the Korea Creative Content Agency (hereinafter referred to as Konjinwon) has expanded from last year. The number of budgets and tasks has increased, and production support for games based on new technologies such as consoles, arcades, board games, block chains, and artificial intelligence, which are evaluated as weak in the domestic game industry, has been newly created.

On the 25th, Conjin One held a 2021 support project briefing on its official YouTube. The total budget for Conjin One this year is KRW 484.2 billion, an increase of KRW 54.4 billion from 2020. Among them, the budget for the game headquarters of Conjin One is 60.6 billion won, an increase of 13 billion won from the previous year, and when the 18 billion won for the local-based game industry development budget conducted by the regional promotion agency is combined, the budget for the game is 77.8 billion won.

The biggest difference between last year and this year is that the game production support business is expanding. Last year, a budget of 18 billion won in 4 fields and 46 projects was supported, but this year the budget has also increased by 35% to 24.3 billion won, and a total of 68 projects are supported in 8 fields. Game production support in 2020 was divided into four categories: next-generation, realistic, high-tech convergence, and functionality.This year, it is divided into new technology, cutting-edge, and functional, along with platform classification such as mobile, PC, console, arcade, and board game. It is a feature.

First of all, mobile targets mobile game makers aiming to advance overseas, and a total of 12 tasks are selected. Next, PC targets both packages and online games, and selects 8 tasks, and also selects 8 tasks in high-tech fields that produce games using VR, AR, and MR. The budget for all projects is up to 400 million won per project.

Subsequently, the new technology-based type is divided into three fields: blockchain, cloud, and artificial intelligence. Blockchain and cloud support up to 500 million won per task for 3 tasks, and up to 600 million won per task for artificial intelligence. New market creation type is divided into console, arcade, and board game. Head of Headquarters Hyuk-soo Kim said, “We will strengthen support by dividing consoles, arcades, and board games that have been weak in game production support so far.” The console is divided into a plan type and a release type, and the plan type supports up to KRW 150 million for 6 tasks, and the release type supports up to 400 million KRW for 4 projects. Subsequently, both arcade and board games are exported, and arcade supports up to 200 million won for 8 tasks, and board games within 0.7 billion won for 6 tasks. Lastly, the functional game production support provides a total budget of 2.1 billion won, 3 each for social contribution and free themes, and 7 projects up to one silver content.

If selected for the aforementioned game production support, along with the budget; A result report meeting and QA (quality inspection) for game users and experts are supported. In addition, there will be no interim evaluation for all content support projects conducted by Konjinone, including games. It is a dimension that provides more opportunities for content companies to evaluate results without dropping out while performing tasks. Including games, KRW 16.7 billion will be invested in creating the foundation for investment financing for content companies

The topic of content companies including games is attracting investment. Accordingly, Conjinwon also invested 16.7 billion won to operate a’contents policy financing system’ to secure the foundation for smooth financing and investment financing for domestic content companies. The business operated by Conjin One is divided into three categories: investment support, loan support, and investment attraction support, all of which include games.

First of all, investment support is mainly based on content valuation. When a game company applies to Konjinwon, the content is comprehensively evaluated based on the model that Konjinone has built. The result of this evaluation is linked to a startup investment company operating a linked fund to support content companies to receive investment.

Subsequently, the loan system is divided into four types: corporate guarantee, IP guarantee, K content innovation growth guarantee, and cultural industry completion guarantee. Konjinwon recommends the applied company to the Korea Credit Guarantee Fund, and after review, if you receive a guarantee from the Credit Guarantee Fund, you can borrow it from the bank as collateral. Corporate guarantees, IP guarantees, and K contents innovation growth guarantees can receive up to 1 billion won per company, and 1.5 billion won for cultural industry completion guarantees.

Corporate guarantee can be obtained in three stages from content planning, production, and commercialization, and IP guarantee can be applied when the company’s IP is expanded into a new business. The K Contents Innovation Growth Guarantee is a guarantee support for global, non-face-to-face, and new technology convergence content, and the Cultural Industry Completion Guarantee is for game companies that have signed a service contract with publishers.

Finally, support for investment financing is centered on the comprehensive platform Knock. It targets companies selected for major projects by the Korea Creative Content Agency and those that have moved into support centers operated by Conjin One, such as the Global Game Hub Center. The main focus is on IR training tailored to the company’s situation for around 80 companies, pitching mentoring that enhances completion through consultation with experts in the field, and support for one-on-one matching with real investors.
