‘Hakpok’ Lee Da-young still tops the set… Will Ahn Hye-jin stop it?

Although he left the court due to controversy over’school violence’, Lee Da-young (Hungkuk Life Insurance) is still running at the top of the female professional volleyball set this season.

As of the 11th, Lee Da-young was the first in the 2020-2021 season of the professional volleyball V-League women’s set.

Lee Da-young averaged 11.05 sets per set, ahead of Ahn Hye-jin (GS Caltex, 10.94 pieces per set) and Song-hwa Cho (IBK Industrial Bank, 10.88 pieces per set) in second place.

Lee Da-young left the court due to a controversy over violence as a student following the discord within the team. Together with the twin sisters and teammate Lee Jae-young, Heungkuk Life’s business trip was suspended indefinitely.

Lee Da-young couldn’t play after the GS Caltex match on the 5th of last month. The number of games played this season is 21 games, less than Anhe Jin and Cho Song-hwa (more than 27 games).

However, Lee Da-young maintains the leading position because the set division is ranked based on the average record rather than the cumulative record.

Lee Da-young received the’Best 7’Setter Awards in a row in the 2017-2018 season, 2018-2019 season, and 2019-2020 season.

After the season, the Korea Volleyball Federation (KOVO) selects the best players by position (2 left, 2 right, 2 centers, setter and libero) and confers the best 7 award.

However, the best 7 winners are not selected only by record. Records and votes are combined (record 40% + journalist vote 40% + expert committee 10% + supervisor/claimer 10%) and decided.

Therefore, just because Lee Da-young is confirmed to be the first place on the set does not necessarily mean that she will be awarded the Best 7 Award.

Depending on the result of the voting, there is a good chance that a player with a lower set ranking will receive an award.

However, it is unclear whether Lee Da-young, who could not complete the season due to unfavorable reasons, will be included in the best 7 nomination.

There is also a possibility that the protagonist who won the first place on the set will change.

GS Caltex and IBK IBK have two games left in the regular season, respectively. The opportunity for Ahn Hye-jin and Cho Song-hwa to challenge the first place on the set is alive.

Ahn Hye-jin has an advantage over Cho Song-hwa in terms of the number of games remaining and the record.

Assuming that Ahn Hye-jin played three sets in the remaining two games, she must succeed in 12.6 sets per set in order to be able to beat Lee Da-young to take the first place.

Two more sets per set than today are required to succeed, but this is not an easy task.

The rest of GS Caltex’s game can affect not only Ahn Hye-jin’s record, but also voting.

GS Caltex is in second place following Heungkuk Life Insurance (56 points, 19 wins and 10 losses), which is the first place with 55 points (19 wins 9 losses). There is a possibility that the first and second place will change depending on the remaining games.

If Ahn Hye-jin performs well and leads the team to win the regular league, he can get a good evaluation from the voters.
