With the opening of the new KTX route from Haeundae to Cheongnyangni, Seoul, the Cheongnyangni-Andong section will be opened first.

Korea Railroad (KORAIL) announced on the 28th that it will operate a new KTX between Cheongnyangni and Andong on the Jungang Line starting January 5th next year. The railway line, originally called the Jungang Line, refers to the route from Cheongnyangni to Gyeongju. However, this time, most of the sections from Wonju to Gyeongju were electrified with new railroads, allowing high-speed rail to travel.

Through this, the new KTX departing from Cheongnyang-ri runs the same section as the KTX on the Gangneung Line, then turns south from Seowonju Station to Andong Station. The stop stations are Cheongnyangni-Yangpyeong-Seowonju-Wonju-Jecheon-Danyang-Punggi-Yeongju-Andong Station.

Originally, it took 3 hours and 54 minutes to ride the Mugunghwa Lake from Cheongnyang-ri to Andong, but with this opening, it has been drastically reduced to 2 hours.

The number of runs per day is 14 times on weekdays (Monday to Friday) (7 times up and 7 times down) and 16 times on weekends (8 times up and 8 times down). The fare for the general room is 25,100 won for Cheongnyang-ri and Andong, 21,800 won for Yeongju and 15,400 won for Jecheon. The fare for the honors room is 20% more expensive. The existing KTX special room rate was 40% higher than that of the general room, but it was set at a lower price.

The new KTX is a vehicle that KORAIL has been known as the EMU260, and can reach a maximum speed of 260 km/h. As a vehicle with superior performance such as acceleration/deceleration compared to the existing KTX, 46 seats in the honors room and 335 seats in the general room will be installed, and the vehicle name will be confirmed and disclosed later. Like KTX-Sancheon, it will be called KTX-○○.

The important point of this line is that it will connect to Shinhaeeundae Station and Bujeon Station in the future. In addition to KTX from Busan Station to Seoul Station, another new high-speed rail line will be created.

The new line descends from Andong Station to the south and connects to Singyeongju Station, and from Singyeongju Station to Ulsan Taehwagang Station, Shinhaeeundae Station, and the Donghae Line, including Bujeon Station. There was no railroad from Singyeongju Station to Taehwa River, but this time it will be newly built.

The time when the new KTX will be introduced in Haeundae-Cheongnyang-ri is scheduled for the end of 2022, and the time required for Haeundae-Cheongnyang-ri is expected to be around 2 hours and 50 minutes. In particular, it is expected to be very popular as it can be reached from Seoul to Haeundae, a tourist destination, within a short time. In addition, tourism in the inland region of Gyeongbuk is expected to be active in Busan. The starting point of Busan is Bujeon Station, and it goes to Cheongnyangni through Shinhaeeundae Station.

On the other hand, tickets for the Jungang Line will be sold on the Let’s Korail homepage, smartphone app’Korail Talk’, and at stations nationwide from 10 am on December 31st. To commemorate its opening, it will be on sale at a 10% discount for 2 weeks from January 5th to 18th. The Jungang Line, which uses the existing Mugunghwa, also continues to run, but the number of operations is greatly reduced to 10 times a week and 8 times on weekends. In particular, the section between Bujeon and Cheongnyangni was adjusted to 4 times a week and 4 times on weekends.

Korea Railroad President Son Byeong-seok said, “The new high-speed trains operating in the central region will become the cornerstone of creating a’national KTX life zone’.
