President Lim evaluated this year as a time to lay the foundation for a safe hydrogen economy, such as the enactment of the hydrogen law and establishment of a hydrogen safety management system, and promote the hydrogen economy revitalization roadmap and hydrogen safety management measures in 2021 at a more rapid pace. He said he would take a rapid leap forward and lead the global hydrogen economy.

To this end, as of January 1, 2021, the Korea Gas Safety Corporation expanded and reorganized the Hydrogen Safety Center into the Hydrogen Safety Technology Institute, and divided the existing two teams into a five-part system for each safety management field to strengthen expertise and expand the number of dedicated personnel to 80. A hydrogen safety foundation has been established to enable rapid business execution.

In addition, for smooth hydrogen economy support, the hydrogen product test laboratory, which is an essential infrastructure for securing the stability of hydrogen products and commercial vehicles, the hydrogen bus component test and evaluation support center, and hydrogen gas safety experience that will provide the right information and experience opportunities for the public. It is also planning to accelerate the establishment of an education center.

Along with this, President Lim also announced that he plans to focus its entire capabilities on establishing an untact gas safety management system and a private-led autonomous safety management system in preparation for the post-corona era in 2021.

President Lim said, “The last 100 days were a time to reflect on the history of gas safety management for 47 years and to think about and prepare for the gas safety required by the future era.” “I will contribute to the advancement of the gas industry through establishment of hydrogen safety infrastructure, grafting of untact to gas safety management, and private-led safety management, and will continue to be more faithful to the original gas safety business.
