Auditor, Gyeonggi-do Clinic, Bucheon General Manager New Town Land Purchase Data Secured
It was confirmed on the 10th that 14 public officials from Gwangmyeong-si and Siheung-si, Gyeonggi-do, acquired land in the planned development site of Gwangmyeong-Siheung New Town under the name of themselves or their families. After the Korean Land and Housing Corporation (LH) employees were suspicious of speculative land transactions for candidate sites in Gwangmyeong and Siheung, Gwangmyeong and Siheung City announced the results of their own investigations targeting their officials.
Some have raised the possibility that cases of land acquisition by local government officials will be revealed in other candidate sites for the 3rd new town in Gyeonggi-do. There are also observations that Gyeonggi-do Governor Lee Jae-myeong will be a political burden if Gyeonggi-do officials acquire land for the new city candidates.
Gwangmyeong Mayor Park Seung-won said in a briefing that morning, “5 additional officials who have purchased land in the new city’s planned site have been confirmed, and there are 6 people in total.” Announced.
It is known that the five government officials in Gwangmyeong City, whose land transactions were confirmed on the day, were two in grade 5, two in grade 6, and one in grade 8. Their land acquisition years were 1 in 2015, 2016, and 2017, respectively, and 2 last year.
Prior to this, it was confirmed that Mr. F, a 6th-level public servant of Gwangmyeong City Hall, purchased 793㎡ of forest in Gahak-dong last year. In the case of Mr. F, it was confirmed that there was an illegal trait change, and an order was issued to restore it to its original state. Gwangmyeong City announced that it will take necessary measures, such as disciplinary action, through additional investigations.
In Siheung City, it was also confirmed that eight public officials acquired land for the 3rd new city candidate site. Siheung Mayor Im Byung-taek announced in a briefing that afternoon that “in the process of self-investigation conducted with 2071 public officials belonging to the city, it was found that 8 public officials owned the land in the planned area of Gwangmyeong and Siheung New City.
Mayor Lim added, “Seven people voluntarily reported ownership of the land, and one was confirmed during the city’s investigation.”
Seven out of eight people were found to be the owners of the land in the candidate site for the new city. One was a public official in the name of the landlord. Two of the officials whose families are landowners said they had inherited in 1980 and 2015. The number of land acquirers in the last five years was three.
In the process of self-investigation, one person who was confirmed to be acquired was a Level 5 public official who is currently undergoing a merit training, and it was confirmed that he acquired 91㎡ of land in Gwangmyeong City through an auction in October last year.
It was revealed that 14 public officials belonging to Gwangmyeong and Siheung City purchased the land for the candidate site in the new city if it was not an investigative agency that has the power to investigate such as the police or the prosecution, but the city’s own investigation. It is also observed that if the survey is expanded to other 3rd new city candidate sites such as Hanam, Goyang, Bucheon, and Gwacheon as well as the entire Gyeonggi Province, government officials will additionally purchase land for the new city candidates. In Siheung and Hanam cities, it was confirmed that a city councilor acquired land in a candidate site for a new city in the name of a family member.
Some observers say that if Gyeonggi Province and Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Corporation (GH) confirm that a public official has acquired land for a candidate site for a new city, it may be a burden to Gyeonggi Gyeonggi Governor Lee Jae-myeong’s presidential campaign.
In fact, on that day, a suspicion of acquiring the land for the third new city candidate was raised by the Gyeonggi-do lawmaker. According to the city of Bucheon that day, the Board of Audit and Inspection secured data from Bucheon City on the 2nd Lot (273㎡) in Daejang-dong, which was recently purchased by Congressman A of the Gyeonggi-do Council.
In 2018, when Clinic A was serving as a councilor in Bucheon City, the land was auctioned in the name of his wife through the government auction site’Onvid’.
