Lee Gyeong-hoon (30, CJ Logistics) showed a pleasant start with a tie for sixth on the first day of the US Professional Golf (PGA) Tour Waste Management Phoenix Open ($7.5 million in prize money).

In the first round of the tournament held at TPC Scottsdale (par 71, 7271 yards) in Scottsdale, Arizona on the 5th (Korean time), Lee Gyeong-hoon tied 6 birdies and 1 bogie to write a 5 under par 66.

Lee Kyung-hoon started smoothly with a tie for 6th place, 3 shots behind the joint lead group (8 under par 63). The shot feeling was excellent, such as recording a green hit rate of 100%.

Lee Kyung-hoon has participated in a total of 12 competitions in the 2020-21 season, but has not yet reached the top 10. The last thing that made it to the top 10 was the RSM Classic in November 2019 (co-fifth), one year and three months ago.

Starting from the 10th hole (par 4), Lee Gyeong-hoon started happily while catching a birdie from the first hole. He added birdies one after another in the 13th hole (par 5), the 15th hole (par 5), and the 17th hole (par 4).

Lee Kyung-hoon continued the upward trend by recording a birdie in the 3rd hole (par 5). It was regrettable that he made 3 putts on the 6th hole (par 4), but he made up with a birdie again on the 7th hole (par 3).

Afterwards, Lee Gyeong-hoon, who caught a birdie in the 8th hole (par 4) and the 9th hole (par 4), ended the round with a tie for 6th place.

The first round was co-leaders by Matthew Nessmith and Mark Hubbard (above the United States). Neither player has yet won the PGA Tour.

World ranking 2nd place Yon Lam (Spain) was tied for 21st with 3 under par 68 strokes, and Ahn Byeong-Hoon (30, CJ Korea Express) was tied for 37th with 2 under par 69.

Kim Si-woo (26) and Lim Seong-jae (23, above CJ Logistics) were sluggish in the first round. Kim Si-woo is tied for 70th with an even par 71, and Lim Sung-jae is a tie for 86th with 1 over par 72.
