“Please let our government reveal Japan’s sins through international law. Please receive judgment in the International Court of Justice so that Japan will realize and reflect on its faults in the International Court of Justice.”

Lee Yong-soo, a victim of Japanese military’comfort women’, held a press conference at the Korea Press Center in Jung-gu, Seoul on the 16th at 11 am on the 16th with the’Comfort Women Issue of the Japanese Army’ with the International Court of Justice (ICJ) Promotion Committee’ and asked President Moon Jae-in about the Japanese military’comfort women’ issue. Requested to be referred to.

The ICJ Referral Promotion Committee, which began its activities in earnest since December last year, is composed of the representative of the citizens’ meeting with Grandmother Lee and Hyuk-soo Seo, the representative of the Citizens’ Meeting with Kim Hyun-jung, the CEO of CARE for compensation and education, and Shin Hee-seok, a law researcher at Yonsei University.

“I don’t have time anymore,” said the grandmother. “In order for me to go and talk to my grandmothers, my last wish is for the president to get a judgment under international law from our government.”

The reason why Grandmother Lee makes such a request to President Moon is that the case can only be referred to the ICJ case with the consent of the relevant party. The Japanese military’comfort women’ issue can be judged through the ICJ only when the two governments of Korea and Japan agree.

“I went to the world to testify, passed resolutions in the US, and set up a memorial to San Francisco. Tried. But Japan is ignoring the ruling and not even appealing. We are alleged to have violated international law.”

The committee delivered this opinion to President Moon Jae-in by e-mail through the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, which is the Ministry of Gender Equality, before the Lunar New Year holiday, and said that it has not yet received a response.

The committee assessed that the judgment of compensation for 12 people, including the late Chun-hee Bae of the Seoul Central District Court on January 8, has historical significance that the Korean court confirmed the legal responsibility of the Japanese government for illegal acts, but there are limitations.

Dr. Shin said, “Because it is a judgment by a Korean court, Japan does not recognize the legitimacy, saying it is a judgment by a domestic court.” He explained about the ICJ referral and said, “There is a chance that Korea will win the ICJ lawsuit.”

Throughout reading the press conference, the grandmother cried and cried, saying, “President, the year has changed, so please make sure to fix it this year.” Grandmother Lee ended the press conference with the words, “I want to meet President Moon soon.”
