As the number of confirmed coronavirus infections (Corona 19) surged, Tokyo Governor Koike Yuriko is planning to request an emergency declaration from the Japanese government, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported on the 2nd.

According to the newspaper, Governor Koike plans to meet Japan’s Economic Finance and Regeneration Minister, Yastoshi Nishimura, who is in charge of countermeasures against Corona 19 this afternoon.

In Tokyo, 1337 new cases of Corona 19 were confirmed on the 31st of last month, the highest ever.

To prevent the spread of the infection, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government is currently requesting restaurants to open only until 10:00 pm, but it has no effect, so it has decided to request an emergency declaration so that more intensive measures can be taken, Nikkei said.

Earlier, the Japanese government declared an emergency in April last year and lifted it on May 25. In the case of an emergency declared area, school closure orders, telecommuting, business suspension and restrictions for schools at all levels become possible.
