Domestic sales of only 313 units in January, down 50.6% from the previous year

Exports hit a record high.

According to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the domestic sales of eco-friendly vehicles in January recorded 17,992 units, up 126.4% from the same month last year.

‘Eco-friendly vehicle’ refers to hybrid (HEV), plug hybrid (PHEV), electric (EV) and hydrogen vehicle (FCEV).

By car type, hybrid cars were sold 15,883 units, accounting for 88.3% of the domestic demand for eco-friendly cars.

About 9 out of 10 eco-friendly cars are sold in hybrid cars.

The main thing to note is that the sales volume of domestic hybrid vehicles is increasing significantly.

The number of domestic hybrid cars sold in the domestic market in January was 11,550 units, an increase of 94.1% compared to the same period of the previous year.

Plug-in hybrid showed the highest growth rate.

During the month of January, 1,654 units were sold, an increase of 484.5% over the same period last year.

142 hydrogen cars were also sold, an increase of 75.3%.

However, only 313 electric vehicles were sold, down 50.6% from the same period last year.

In this regard, the Ministry of Industry interpreted it as the influence that the guidelines for subsidizing the government for electric vehicles were not finalized.

An official from the Ministry of Industry and Motor Vehicles said, “The support schedule for electric vehicle purchase subsidies has not yet been specified, so domestic sales in January seem to have temporarily decreased. It will continue.”

◇ Electric vehicle exports increased for 42 consecutive months

Exports of eco-friendly cars reached $900 million for the first time in history, showing strong sales across all car models.

In particular, electric vehicle exports have been increasing for 42 consecutive months.

According to the Ministry of Industry, exports of eco-friendly cars in January reached 900 million dollars, setting a record high in monthly exports.

In particular, exports of all eco-friendly vehicles were robust, accounting for 17.3% of all passenger car exports in January and 22.6% of all passenger car exports.

By car type, electric and hydrogen cars recorded $396.3 million, hybrid cars recorded $410 million, and plus-in hybrid cars recorded $100 million.

In particular, the rate of increase in exports of electric and hydrogen cars was remarkable.

Based on exports, this is an increase of 70.8% compared to January last year.

Among them, electric vehicle exports have been increasing for 42 consecutive months, and are being evaluated as emerging as a new export engine.

In January, exports of eco-friendly cars were also counted at 32,035 units, up 76.5% from the same period last year.

Of these, electric cars accounted for 11,454 units, accounting for 35.6% of the total eco-friendly car exports.

In particular, Kia’s Niro electric car sold 6,183 units during the month of January, accounting for 54% of the total electric car sales, and was recorded as a best-selling export car.
