The government announced on the 6th that the new coronavirus (Corona 19) vaccine could be sufficiently inoculated to 12 million people with 14715,000 doses of the vaccine introduced in the first half of the year.

According to the Corona 19 Vaccination Response Team (Promotion Team) on that day, a total of 18088,000 vaccines that were confirmed to be introduced in Korea by June, including the amount that had already arrived, is a total of 1,8088,000 doses (for 9044,000 people based on two doses). Of these, a total of 3,373,000 batches have entered Korea since February.

In addition, the promotion team announced that 432,000 doses of AstraZeneca (AZ) vaccine and 250,000 doses individually contracted with Pfizer were received from the international project’Covax Facility (COVAX)’, an international project for vaccine joint purchase, last weekend.

An additional 14715,000 episodes will be introduced by June. By type of vaccine, the 1.66 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine received from COVAX are expected to be available in May. The 297,000 doses of Pfizer vaccine contracted with Kovacs are expected to be available by June. The 7 million contracts contracted with AstraZeneca will come in sequentially from May to June. A total of 750,000 doses of vaccine contracted with Pfizer will be introduced during this month, followed by 1.75 million doses in May and 3.25 million doses in June. In this regard, the promotion team said, “We are continuing to discuss for the early introduction of (vaccine quantities).”

Both AstraZeneca and Pfizer vaccines, which have been confirmed to be introduced so far, must be administered twice. However, the government decided to expand the interval between the first and second doses of AstraZeneca vaccine from 10 weeks to 12 weeks in order to target as many people as possible amid the increasingly fierce competition to secure vaccines.

In addition, it is a policy to minimize the amount of discarded vaccines by using the domestic minimum residual amount syringe (LDS). The government estimates that through this, up to 12 million people can be vaccinated within the first half of the year.

The promotion team said, “The amount of 1,8088,000 doses of vaccines that have been confirmed to be introduced in the first half is the amount that can be inoculated for 12 million people within the first half,” and said, “We plan to secure and manage the volume so that the second vaccination will not be disrupted.”

However, as countries around the world are trying to secure a vaccine, there are voices of concern. As the European Union (EU) faced the problem of a shortage of COVID-19 vaccines, from January 30th, pharmaceutical companies have been required to obtain approval from member states when exporting vaccines produced in the region. It is reported that India temporarily suspended the export of AstraZeneca vaccines at the end of last month to supply domestic demand as the corona19 epidemic worsened in Korea.
