On the 18th, Hyundai Motor Company announced that it has signed an MOU with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Hyundai Glovis, LG Energy Solutions, and KST Mobility at Hyundai Motor and Kia Namyang Technology Research Center in Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi-do.
The MOU signing ceremony was attended by government and industry officials, including Prime Minister Jeong Sye-gyun, Minister of Industry, Seong Yun-mo, Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Eui-sun Eui, Hyundai Motors President Gong Young-woon, Hyundai Glovis President Kim Jung-hoon, LG Energy Solution President Kim Jong-hyun, and KST Mobility CEO Haeng-ryul Lee.
According to the agreement, a taxi platform operator sells battery ownership to a leasing operator immediately after purchasing an electric vehicle. Since the operator pays monthly battery lease fees for the duration of the electric vehicle holding period, it means that the electric vehicle is actually purchased at a price without the battery price.
Prime Minister Chung said on the day, “The battery rental business is to complete the eco-friendly electric vehicle ecosystem from the perspective of the entire life cycle of the vehicle, and its meaning is very large.” “The battery rental business has the effect of expanding the supply of electric vehicles, creating new businesses, and reducing environmental pollution. There is” he said.
Following the business agreement signing ceremony, Prime Minister Jung demonstrated and demonstrated eco-friendly vehicle products and new technologies such as core parts of electric vehicles, and demonstrated’Ioniq 5′, which was applied for the first time with an electric vehicle exclusive platform (E-GMP).
When the battery rental service is commercialized, customers can purchase electric vehicles at lower cost than before. This is expected to lead to the expansion of the supply of electric vehicles.
In addition, this project will demonstrate the safety of the battery after using the electric vehicle and prepare a plan for evaluating the residual value, so the effect of activating the reuse of electric vehicle batteries is expected. It is also possible to explore related new businesses through sharing EV battery data.
An official from Hyundai Motor said, “This is a case where the government and industry have joined forces to expand the supply of electric vehicles and reuse of batteries after use.”
He added, “In the future, even in countries that do not have subsidies for electric vehicles, it is expected to spread as a business model that can reduce the price gap between cars with internal combustion engines.” Reporter Lee Jung-hwan
