On the 12th, the working-level negotiations for the unification of candidates between Oh Se-hoon, the power of the people, and Ahn Cheol-soo, the mayor of the Seoul National Assembly, broke down after going back and forth between Goseong.

The working-level negotiation groups of both sides met at the National Assembly at 11 am on that day and held a third meeting over the number and method of debates, questionnaire for public opinion polls, etc., but no agreement was reached.

In the meeting that day, there was also a violent Goseong. Out of the conference room, voices such as “You shouldn’t talk like that” and “Why are you being forced to do so?” leaked out. Both sides are said to have engaged in a nervous war over the number of TV debates and vision conferences.

Lee Tae-gyu, Secretary General of the National Assembly Party, met with reporters after the meeting and said, “We exchanged opinions widely on the number and method of discussions and issues of public opinion polls.” He said.

Specifically, he said, “We have no time, so we are in a position to settle collectively, but that we want to resolve the power of the people step by step,” he said. “Because we couldn’t reach an agreement to solve that part, we decided to do it again next time.”

This difficulty can be interpreted as a result of the recent surge in the approval rating of Candidate Se-Hoon Oh, and an unpredictable face-to-face battle with Candidate Ahn Chul-soo.

Earlier, the two sides agreed to finalize a single opposition candidate on the 19th, the deadline for registration of candidates for the Central Election Commission, after conducting a unified public opinion poll on the 17th and 18th at a working-level negotiation meeting the previous day (11th).
