Google, calling for’Katalk and Naver mess’, frowns on procrastination… the government reviews compensation for damages

Google’s procrastination response is frowning upon users amid great discomfort due to a phenomenon in which app execution becomes a’meet’ in the Google Android operating system (OS). It is criticized for increasing user confusion by responding silently, such as not notifying the fact that an error occurred in a timely manner.

According to the information technology (IT) industry on the 23rd, there was a problem that some apps that use web content on Android-based Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics smartphones stop running from the early morning of this day. Various apps, such as Naver and Kakao Talk, banking and securities trading, suffered such a’turn off’ phenomenon. In the case of the delivery people, the card payment was not properly made, and the delivery drivers suffered from difficulties.

This error is presumed to have occurred due to a conflict with the existing app while the Google system app’WebView’ was being updated. It is a common problem all over the world. However, users who regarded this as a cell phone malfunction visited Samsung and LG Electronics service centers and complained of inconvenience. Traffic was concentrated on the Samsung Electronics service homepage, and the server was even paralyzed for about 15 minutes. Accordingly, Samsung and LG Electronics have been sweating away from taking temporary measures such as posting notices and guiding solutions.

On the other hand, Google did not release specific notices or explanations, but reported the error through a Korean blog around 3 pm, after 7 hours. “We are aware of the problem and are working on a solution,” he said. “If a problem occurs, you can use the service in the app’s desktop web environment.” Then, at 5 pm, Google announced that “all issues related to web view that caused the Android app to download have been resolved.” It is explained that you can run Google Play → search Android system web view and Chrome → update each to the latest version.

The government is looking into whether it can hold Google responsible for damages or other liability for this error. The Korea Communications Commission and the Ministry of Science and ICT are reviewing the applicable provisions of the law, but it is unclear whether punishment will be possible.

Meanwhile, according to Stat Counter, as of February this year, Google Android’s domestic mobile OS market share reached 73.24%.
