In the northern Himalayas, glaciers struck the dam, causing rapids to pour down, causing 100 to 150 people to disappear. The disaster authorities said, “I am concerned that they all died.”

According to local media such as NDTV and Indian Express on the 7th and Reuters news agency, on the morning of that day, a glacier fell from Mt.

As a result, a rapid current such as a’tsunami’ on the shoreline occurred, sweeping two hydroelectric power plant construction sites near the dam. The rapids went down the river along the valley, sweeping all the roads and bridges.

One eyewitness told Reuters, “There was an avalanche mixed with glaciers with a roaring noise, and flooding occurred at a rapid rate without warning.”

Indian disaster authorities dispatched 200 military, police and disaster response teams to the flood site for search and rescue work. The Indian Air Force was also put into the air search.

Authorities believe that more than 100 people, including workers in the construction of the Lishiganga hydroelectric power plant and residents of the surrounding villages, have been missing. Some media reported that the number of missing persons was’at least 150′.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote on Twitter, saying, “We are closely monitoring the situation of the accident and recovery.”

There are 14 glaciers adjacent to the river in Mount Nandadevi National Park. The reason why the glaciers fell from Mt. Nandadebi is not yet known, but speculation that the glaciers in the Himalayas may have melted due to global warming for a long time have been speculated.

Environmental organizations said, “Avalanches and landslides often occur in this area.” “Climate change as well as difficult development of roads, railroads, and power plants in ecologically sensitive areas can instigate such accidents. We are against the large-scale river valley project,” he criticized the government’s development policy.
