“Give a pizza and receive glutinous rice cake”… Mid-term Ministry of Finance Sejong Gago Meteorological Administration Daejeon Ona

Daejeon City “Relocated four institutions including the Meteorological Administration instead of the Ministry of Medium and Medium Business”

Controversy arose when the city of Daejeon said, “It is likely that some institutions such as the Meteorological Administration will come to Daejeon in exchange for the transfer of Sejong by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups.” This is because it is pointed out that the relocation target institution has less impact on the local economy than the mid-term economy.

Daejeon Mayor Hur Tae-jeong held a press conference on the 21st and said, “As a substitute agency for the Ministry of Medium and Medium-sized business, the work of the Meteorological Administration and three other institutions before Daejeon is progressing considerably.” The consideration for the Daejeon in the past led to this result.”

Currently, the government’s relocation to Daejeon in exchange for the relocation of the Mid-term Ministry is in all four: the Meteorological Administration, the Korea Meteorological Industry and Technology Institute, the Korea Forestry Promotion Agency, and the Korea Institute of Energy Technology Evaluation.

The Meteorological Administration’s main office (including Numerical Modeling Center, Weather Radar Center, and Climate Weather Human Resources Development Institute) has a capacity of 619 people. In addition, 566 employees from three organizations, including the Korea Meteorological Industry and Technology Institute, the Korea Forestry Promotion Agency, and the Korea Institute for Energy Technology Evaluation, are added, and a total of 1185 people are moving from Seoul to Daejeon.

The number of mid-term headquarters relocating to Sejong is 499. Adding 558 employees from the Small and Medium Business Technology Information Promotion Agency and the Center for Startup Promotion and the Credit Guarantee Foundation, which are moving together, will result in 1057 people moving from Daejeon to Sejong.

“The institution the Daejeon City talks about is already moving forward”

There is not much difference between those who leave Daejeon to Sejong and those who move from Seoul to Daejeon. However, it is said that there is a difference in the impact on the region when considering the various projects that the SMEs took into consideration during Daejeon while the SMEs were in Daejeon while government officials and business officials visited the SME for various business consultations or civil complaints.

One entrepreneur said, “Most of the institutions that will move to Daejeon are of low importance and are research institutions, so it will not be of great help to the local economy.”

In addition, some of the institutions are known to have been promoted before Daejeon. According to the city of Daejeon, the Korea Meteorological Industry and Technology Institute considered relocation to Daejeon in June 2019. Since last year, the Korea Institute of Energy Technology Evaluation has been promoting the relocation to Daejeon, where the Institute of Energy Research is located.

Citizens “I need to apologize to the mayor and citizens of the ruling party in the Daejeon region”

“Even if these institutions have confirmed that they will come to Daejeon, it is much weaker than the impact of the mid-term,” said former lawmaker Jeong Guk-gyo. “It was like giving a large pizza and receiving a small sticky rice cake.”

Dong-il Yuk, an emeritus professor of the Department of Autonomy Administration, Chungnam National University, said, “It is unclear when the relocation of the institution will take place because the Moon Jae-in administration is ending.” They should apologize to the citizens.”

Chairman of the Daejeon City Party, Jang Dong-hyuk, said, “The issues of relocation of these institutions need to be confirmed by the Prime Minister, and the relocation of public institutions related to the relocation of the mid-term government to the relocation of the innovative city must be made clear.”

In addition, the Democratic Party’s mayor of Daejeon established a tent party in front of the government’s Sejong Government Complex on November 30 last year and argued against the relocation of the mid-term ministry. In addition, civil society organizations in Daejeon have placed placards with ‘opposition to the relocation of the Mid-term Ministry’ in various places in the Daejeon area.
