(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Kwon Hee-won = While Kia announced the release of its first exclusive electric car’EV6′ at the end of this month, noise between labor and management is growing over pre-booking online.

This is because Kia’s sales union sees EV6’s pre-order online as a sign of full-scale online sales.

According to the industry on the 23rd, Kia is planning to make advance reservations online after fully revealing the EV6 through the Digital World Premier event on the 30th.

As the EV6 is the first model to apply a platform exclusively for electric vehicles, Kia plans to attract consumers’ attention by receiving a pre-order online prior to the pre-contract for the first time.

However, the Kia sales union is rebelling because it believes such reservations can lead to online sales and threaten jobs for salespeople.

On the 22nd, the sales branch of the Kia Motors Branch of the National Metal Workers Union sent a letter to Kia’s domestic business headquarters on the 18th, saying, “Ev6 online reservation will harm the employment stability of sales workers.” He said he had delivered.

The sales union argues, “I have doubts whether the introduction of EV6’s online pre-booking presupposes online sales of all car models.”

The union plans to embark on a full-fledged struggle to prevent online advance reservations through single-person protests and rallies in the future.

The management said that prior reservation is simply about registering the names and contact information of customers who are willing to purchase, and there is no plan to expand it to online sales.

Kia officials said, “There is no specific decision yet, but advance reservation will be about paying the reservation fee and receiving the contract number,” he said. “There are no plans to proceed with advance contracts and sales online.”

However, in line with the new coronavirus infection (Corona 19), domestic and overseas automakers are starting to expand their non-face-to-face sales channels in earnest, increasing anxiety among sales employees.

GM Korea is conducting an online quotation consultation service, and Renault Samsung Motors is actively engaged in non-face-to-face sales such as launching the XM3 in February of last year and holding an online pre-contract event with Naver.

Volvo and Mercedes have announced plans to bring 80% and 25% of their total sales online by 2025, respectively.

Hyundai Motor Company is expanding its online sales platform’Click to Buy’, which had been operated as a pilot business before Corona 19, to the UK, Australia, Canada, as well as the United States and India, but has not introduced it in Korea.

An industry insider said, “It is true that it is not easy to introduce an online car sales platform in Korea because there are many things to consider, such as backlash from sales employees.”
