‘A total of 600 people, 100 people per hour.’

It is the’number of people who will be vaccinated per day’ of the Central Vaccination Center of the National Medical Center, who will take the first step of vaccination against the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19). When the Pfizer vaccine arrives in the middle of this month, medical personnel from the Central Medical Center and hospitals dedicated to infectious diseases in the metropolitan area will receive the vaccine. Due to the characteristics of Pfizer vaccines distributed at very low temperatures, the vaccination method is difficult. This is required to hit 150,000 people a day at 250 vaccination centers nationwide. Practice is essential for successful vaccination.

It was the simulation training that took place at the Central Vaccination Center on the 9th. It was assumed that 50 pre-selected mock inoculations visited the center from 2 pm to 2:30 pm. There are 100 people every hour, so 50 people should be vaccinated within 30 minutes. In conclusion, it took another 17 minutes. To get more speed, you need to increase your skill level. It was pointed out that the guidance procedure before vaccination and the place of observation after vaccination should be supplemented.

Pfizer vaccines stored in cryogenic freezers should be transferred to the refrigerator the day before vaccination. The freezer reaches -60 to 80 degrees Celsius and it takes time to defrost. After arriving at the center, the person to be vaccinated should check their body temperature at the entrance, pull out a number tag, check their ID, and fill out a preliminary ticket. They stay in the waiting area waiting for the vaccination, and at this time, the vaccine information is guided through the guide or QR code.

The vaccinator who came to the turn is given the vaccine after a doctor’s preliminary examination for about 3 minutes. If there are many inoculations, in the preparation room, pharmacists and nurses prepare 120 injections per hour. Those who received the vaccine should move to the observation room next to them and wait 15 minutes for adverse reactions to appear. An official at the Central Medical Center said, “It was delayed in the observation room because 50 people came at once,” and said, “We plan to increase the seats in the observation room.” Myung-Don Oh, chairman of the Central Clinical Committee for New Infectious Diseases at the Central Medical Center, said, “While in the observation room, make sure it is well ventilated. “The key is to avoid exposure to the virus.”

In the simulation training on this day, there was a situation where the vaccine side effect, anaphylaxis, which experts are most concerned about, occurred. When inoculations complained of dizziness and shortness of breath occurred, the medical staff immediately administered the drug and transferred to the emergency room or transferred to the intensive observation room after emergency treatment.

The number of targets is predetermined only at the beginning of the vaccination, but the scale and targets of the vaccination will expand as the second half of the year passes. Chairman Oh stressed, “Because you put the diluted solution into the vaccine that was dissolved the day before and discard it if you do not use it within 6 hours, it is very important to have a reservation system that determines when and where many people will be hit.”

The simulation training on this day assumes a situation where the inoculation comes to the center. It does not apply to nursing homes where medical staff must visit and inoculate. According to the current vaccination plan, elderly people in nursing homes will be vaccinated with the AstraZeneca vaccine. However, the variable is whether the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety will permit vaccinations to elderly people aged 65 or older. Chairman Oh said, “From August to January 26 last year, more than 26,000 people from abroad received the AstraZeneca vaccine, and 25% of them were over 65 years old, and no abnormal signals were detected.” Data from a clinical trial of the AstraZeneca vaccine, which 25% of people over 65 years of age in Peru participated, will also be available around March 23.”
