A broadcaster in Germany likened BTS to a novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19) and said, “Go on vacation to North Korea.” Although the broadcaster stepped forward to explain it, there is a controversy that this content does not even admit the fault.

According to local media on the 25th (local time), Matthias Matushke, the host of the German radio broadcast’Bayern 3′, made a dead end over the stage of BTS in the live broadcast that took place the night before. On this day, BTS appeared on’MTV Unplugged’ for the first time among Korean singers and showed off the cover stage of’Fix You’ by the band Coldplay. MTV Unplugged is a live program based on acoustic sound of the American music channel MTV, where legendary musicians such as Nirvana and Eric Clapton stood.

Matushke said that it is “blasphemy” that BTS appeared on MTV Unplugged. “I’m not against Korea,” he said. “I have a Korean car.” In addition, Matushke argued that “it is a paradox that the boy band appeared in Unplugged.” Matushke said, “BTS has to go on vacation to North Korea for about 20 years,” while uttering harsh swear words.

Criticism toward Matushke came out on social media over this. On Twitter, there were criticisms of racial discrimination and demands to apologize. In the end, Bayern 3 broadcasted a statement and said, “This controversy was created while trying to express one’s opinion in an exaggerated manner, and just trying to express displeasure against BTS’ Fix You Cover stage.” The broadcaster said, “It broke the hearts of BTS fans,” and said, “Matushke clearly said that he was not speaking with that (racism) intention.” Matushke turned Twitter to private without revealing his position.
