At around 3:47 pm on the 23rd, a 339t class large ship A was inundated at 1.11 km (0.6 nautical miles) southeast of Galgot Island, Nam-myeon, Geoje-si, Gyeongsangnam-do. The coast guard, who was reported and dispatched, rescued 7 out of 10 crew members on board A and is searching for the remaining 3 people.

7 out of 10 are rescued and 3 are being searched

At the time of the mobilization, the sailors were drifting on the sea, and the rescued seven were transported consciously to a nearby hospital, an official explained. Of the 10 crew members, nine were Koreans and one was Indonesian national. All sailors who are not currently rescued are Koreans.

The flood report was filed at the Tongyeong Coastal Maritime Traffic Control Center (VTS) around 3:47 on that day. The Tongyeong Coast Guard dispatched 15 ships, including patrol boats and coastal rescue boats, and 2 aircraft to the site, and the Navy also put 3 ships and 1 aircraft into the search site. Afterwards, they arrived at the site at around 4:16 pm and are working on rescue.

However, due to poor weather conditions, it is having difficulty in searching. At present, a storm warning is in effect at the site of the accident, and strong winds of 2.0 to 3.5 m and a speed of 14 to 16 m per second are blowing. A maritime police official said, “We are doing our best to rescue the remaining three crew members,” and explained that “there is a difficult search due to bad weather conditions.”
