Genesis’ sports utility vehicle (SUV)’GV80 (photo)’, which proved its safety in the car rollover accident of Tiger Woods, the US’Golf Emperor’ last month, was recognized as the safest vehicle in the United States.

Hyundai Motor Company announced on the 19th that the GV80 was awarded the’Top Safety Pick Plus’ rating, which is given to the safest vehicle in the crash evaluation by the American Highway Safety Insurance Association (IIHS). This is the first report card that GV80 received after entering the US market at the end of last year.

Prior to this, all of the Genesis sedan lineups (G70, G80, G90) achieved the top safety pick plus rating for two consecutive years from 2019 to 2020, and the 2021 G70 sports sedan and the G90 flagship sedan received the same rating in February.

IIHS, a non-profit organization founded in 1959, provides a comprehensive evaluation of the collision safety performance and collision prevention performance of hundreds of vehicles released every year. Among them, vehicles that show the highest safety are given a Top Safety Pick Plus rating. GV80 received the highest grade, Good, in the evaluation of six collision safety items.

Woods was in a rollover accident in Los Angeles (LA) County, California, USA while driving a GV80 on the 23rd of last month. At the time of the accident, the car rolled and the front part of the car was completely wrinkled, which was greatly damaged, but it was investigated that there was little internal damage. Woods only suffered a fracture in his leg, but there was no harm in his life.
