Former President Park Geun-hye, who was undergoing quarantine treatment at an external hospital after close contact with a corona19 confirmed employee, returns to the Seoul Detention Center on the 9th. Summarizing the comments of officials from the Ministry of Justice, former President Park will return to the Seoul Detention Center in Uiwang, Gyeonggi Province, where he was imprisoned after three weeks after being admitted to Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital. On the 20th of last month, former President Park made close contact with an employee of the Seoul Detention Center (confirmed on the 19th) in a convoy vehicle during the outpatient treatment process. On the day of the gene amplification (PCR) test, the result was negative, but considering the elderly and infection prevention measures, he was admitted to an external hospital for quarantine treatment. Former President Park was hospitalized at Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital for shoulder surgery in 2019 for more than two months, and has been receiving regular outpatient treatment since. Former President Park, who was classified as a close contact and undergoing quarantine treatment, was removed from the quarantine measures for two weeks on the last two days after a negative test was made again. Afterwards, it was decided to return on the 9th through review of the medical staff. In the Seoul detention center, where former President Park is imprisoned, after the confirmed deaths of Corona 19 at the end of last year were confirmed, four employees and four prisoners were confirmed last month. On the other hand, former President Lee Myung-bak, who was imprisoned in the Seoul Eastern Detention Center, has been delayed after being transferred to Seoul National University Hospital for diabetes treatment on December 21 last year. This decision reflects the opinion of doctors that additional tests are needed to find the cause of the sudden rise in blood sugar levels. It is said that the Dongbu detention center, where a large-scale group infection of more than 1,200 people has occurred, is considering the transfer to another correctional facility, but it is difficult to decide due to security issues. On the other hand, at the Seoul Southern Prison, where 10 inmates were confirmed last week, 840 prisoners and 310 employees were subjected to a total inspection on that day. To date, the number of confirmed cases related to correctional facilities nationwide is 1,276. By Ok Ki-won, staff reporter [email protected]
