The victim, who exposed the fact that he was sexually harassed by a professor, reported the second harassing remarks of neighbors to the Seoul National University Human Rights Center, but the victims are protesting as the Human Rights Center concluded that “remarks came out of concern about the situation of the department.” In summary, on the 24th, the Human Rights Center on the 12th dismissed the report filed by Mr. Silvia Kim (31) and assistants who were sexually assaulted by Professor A, saying that it is not a secondary abuse and cannot be regarded as a human rights violation. Earlier, Kim et al. reported to the Human Rights Center in June last year that the remarks made by four people, including graduate students and lecturers in the Department of Standing and Literature at Seoul National University from 2018 to 2020, were’second offenses’. In October 2018, Mr. Kim and others said,’The content of Mr. Kim’s disclosure is a trivial thing that happened in the 2nd and 3rd rounds after the department’s dinner party, and it is a common occurrence for all women. Mr. Kim was too sensitive,’ and reported this to the Human Rights Center as a second offense. However, the Human Rights Center said, “There seems to be a possibility that Mr. B mentioned the case,” and “it is difficult to admit that he made a specific remark as in the content of the report. Even if Mr. b made a speculative comment on the case of a professor, it is quite reasonable to see it as expressing his wishes to be resolved by worrying about the situation as a member of the department, rather than to criticize the victim or defend the perpetrator.” This is to the effect that it cannot be regarded as a human rights violation. On the other hand, Mr. Kim responded, “The Human Rights Center interpreted the remarks as’for the department’ without providing any evidence.” In March 2019, Mr. Kim also reported to the Human Rights Center that a lecturer at the Department of Seoseo Literature reported that the report of sexual harassment of a professor was a’political incident’ during class. Regarding this, the Human Rights Center said, “It is acknowledged that the lecturer expressed’political’ in class or during breaks.” It is difficult to interpret the expression’political’ as the purpose of reducing the’a professor’s case’ or emphasizing the perpetrators.” In this regard, an official from the Human Rights Center said, “We made a decision by combining the statements of the parties and the results of the deliberation. The investigation is a secret matter, so it is difficult to say in detail the basis for the decision.” Previously, Mr. Kim posted a real name Daejabo to Seoul National University in February 2019, saying that he was sexually harassed three times by a professor from 2015 to 2017. In August of the same year, according to the results of the Seoul National University Faculty Disciplinary Committee, Mr. A was dismissed. By Jeon Kwang-jun, staff reporter
