The National Human Rights Commission of Korea (HRC) expressed concern about the administrative order of the corona19 diagnostic test for foreign workers by some local governments and announced that it would make a quick decision on the complaint case received. On the 19th, the Human Rights Commission said in a statement issued on the 21st of the’World Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination’, regarding the administrative order for the corona19 diagnostic test for foreign workers recently enforced by some local governments, such as Seoul and Gyeonggi-do, “In 2018, the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination was forced to abolish the use of degrading terms such as’illegal sojourners’ in official documents,” he said. Even though it was recommended, the administrative order of the local government repeatedly stated “Illegal foreigners” and “Illegal foreigners”. The Human Rights Commission said, “For this reason, foreigners were recognized as’suspects of infectious diseases requiring a corona 19 diagnostic test’ and’illegal offenders’, and hate comments on foreigners were sometimes posted on related articles.” “Foreigners hate related administrative orders. He filed a complaint with the Human Rights Commission, saying it feels like racism. Accordingly, the Human Rights Commission seeks to quickly determine whether discrimination and violations exist. “The policy of excluding or separating migrants can lead to negative perceptions and discrimination against migrants, shake the foundation of social integration, solidarity and trust, and lead to hate crimes based on race,” the Human Rights Commission emphasized. The government and local governments need to take special care to ensure that migrants are not alienated and that discriminatory ideas and attitudes are not produced in implementing policies targeting migrants.” The Human Rights Committee said, “Because discrimination and hatred against marginalized and vulnerable groups can occur anywhere in the world, and we can all become victims of racial discrimination, the recognition that racial discrimination should be eliminated. As a human rights organization, we will do our best to abolish racial discrimination in our society by fulfilling our responsibilities and roles, and to seek a wide range of social solidarity with migrants. I look forward to seeing our society go beyond discrimination and hate into a society of peaceful coexistence that recognizes diversity.” By Kim Yoon-joo, staff reporter
