During the Lee Myung-bak administration, the former secretary-general of the Parents’ Union, Choo Seon-hee, who led the’control demonstration’ by colluding with the National Intelligence Service was confirmed in the Supreme Court. The first division of the Supreme Court (Presiding Judge Kim Seon-eun) announced on the 18th that it has confirmed the court case sentenced to 10 months imprisonment for the secretary-general Choo, who was accused of violating the National Intelligence Service Act. Choo was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison and 3 years probation for violating the Assembly and Demonstration Act (Assembly Act), blackmail, and defamation. In 2009-2011, secretary-general Choo conspired with former National Intelligence Service Director Won Se-hoon, and was accused of holding a control demonstration favorable to the passport at the time and receiving funding at the request of the NIS. In November 2010, a condemnation rally against lawmakers Park Ji-won and Song Young-gil who criticized the government after the North Korean bombardment on Yeonpyeong Island, a condemnation rally against actor Moon Seong-geun, who was engaged in an opposition integration campaign in May 2011, and a rally against the second anniversary of the death of the late former President Roh Moo-hyun It turned out that the lights were all opened with the support of the National Intelligence Service. In August 2013, during the Park Geun-hye administration, secretary-general Choo was accused of extorting 22 million won by threatening to exert influence through the NIS after a rally by defining the CJ Group as a left-leaning company. The first trial judged mostly guilty of allegations of political involvement in the NIS, such as control demonstrations, but was acquitted of charges of blackmail against the CJ Group and sentenced the secretary-general to Choo to a suspended sentence. However, the appeals court said, “CJ had to maintain a good relationship because there is a possibility that if the relationship with the Parental Union deteriorated, it could flock to the left and suffer. (The company) had anxiety in the Parental Union, and had difficulties in normal business due to a radical demonstration.” He was also convicted of blackmailing, and sentenced him to imprisonment and restrained him in court. At the time, the second trial court said, “In light of the specificity of the NIS, the act of helping the NIS political involvement from outside such as the defendant is illegal, so it is not easy to prevent recurrence unless the corresponding punishment is given, so the sentence is imprisoned. The Supreme Court also dismissed the appeal of the secretary-general of Choo, seeing that the judgment of the lower court was justified. By Jang Ye-ji, staff reporter [email protected]
