Elders of civil society, including Father Ham Se-woong and former Democratic Labor Party representative Kwon Young-gil, requested that “President Moon Jae-in, the chief officer of the state administration, should take full responsibility for the enactment of the Severe Accident Corporate Punishment Act and the reinstatement of the dismissal of Hanjin Heavy Industries & Construction.” Members of the society held a press conference at the fountain in front of the Blue House on the 28th and said, “I urge President Moon to make a decision so that the enactment of the Severe Disaster Act and the reinstatement of Kim Jin-suk can take place within the year.” In consideration of the Corona 19 situation, the press conference was attended by Father Ham and Monk Myung-jin, former representatives of Kwon and former Democratic Labor Party lawmaker Dan Byung-ho, Cho Don-moon, chairman of the Roh Hoe-chan Foundation, and lawyer Lee Deok-woo, representing 73 members of the society. Social elders explained in a statement that “The’Severe Accident Corporate Punishment Act’ will become a precious touchstone of the era of creating a new social ethic that puts’life and safety over profits’ above industrial accidents and will become a new milestone in democracy in Korean society.” Later, he stressed that “President Moon Jae-in, the chief executive of state affairs, must take a concrete position and take on a role so that the proper enactment of the’Severe Accident Business Punishment Act’ is urgently implemented within this year.” In addition, he urged the role of President Moon over the reinstatement of dismissed Kim Jin-sook who is about to retire on December 31 this year. Social elders said, “(The issue of reinstatement) is a barometer of the human rights of all workers, which have been oppressed by the military dictatorship and political and economic chaebol regimes for a long time, and a litmus test site.” “Management of Korea Development Bank, a legal manager of Hanjin Heavy Industries, President Moon, the head of the administration, must fulfill its responsibilities as a director.” He continued, “After 35 years of unfair dismissal, he has reoccurred in the process of his reinstatement struggle and is lying down under surgery. “The least social justice is to quickly restore his rights, which had been unfairly suppressed for 35 years.” The members of the society said, “I am concerned about whether the spirit of the Moon Jae-in administration at the time of inauguration of’the opportunity is equal, the process is fair, and the outcome is justified’ is being implemented well.” “It is difficult to develop a new coronavirus vaccine right now.
