President Hae-Jong Lim “Drastic change and innovation that breaks away from the existing paradigm”

[이투뉴스] Korea Gas Safety Corporation will promote a drastic innovation in safety management and a hydrogen economy with a sense of speed this year.

In the New Year’s speech, which was broadcasted online on the 4th, President Lim Hae-jong evaluated that gas accidents in the underdeveloped country, such as negligent handling of facilities, are continuing, with 98 gas accidents last year, 83% compared to 577 cases in 1995, the highest level in history. He then emphasized the need for drastic change and innovation to break away from the existing paradigm in order to advance to a higher level of gas safety management.

To this end, President Lim transformed the regulatory-centered pipe-led safety management into a supplier-centered autonomous safety management system, where the supplier is in charge of practical safety management activities for demand facilities, and the officials manage and support private activities. It stated that a management model should be introduced. In addition, in preparation for the era of the digital new deal, the service of the entire inspection process will be improved centering on non-face-to-face online, and it will further accelerate the development of smart safety management technology incorporating the fourth industry.

In order to lead the global hydrogen economy, President Lim emphasized that the leadership of the hydrogen economy should not be lost through rapid implementation. To support the implementation of the hydrogen economy and reinforce the role of a dedicated hydrogen safety agency, President Lim expanded the hydrogen safety management organization and expanded its human resources and budget. He announced that he plans to concentrate on resource input.

To this end, as of January 1, the’Hydrogen Safety Center’, which was previously operated as a two-team system, was reorganized into the’Hydrogen Safety Technology Institute’ to expand and reinforce the five-part system for each field of hydrogen safety management. By early deployment, more than 80 people were able to carry out hydrogen safety work.

President Lim, who demanded that all efforts be made so that tangible results can be created through rapid implementation and monitoring of the hydrogen economy roadmap and comprehensive measures for hydrogen safety management, emphasized sound organizational management and responsible leadership.
