[국토일보 조성구 기자] On the 25th, Korea Gas Safety Corporation’s safety management director Lee Yeon-jae conducted a safety consulting service for a mobile hydrogen charging station (manufacturer Hanyoung Technochem Co., Ltd., located in Gyeongju, Gyeongsangbuk-do), which is scheduled to be installed in the Ulsan Free Regulatory Zone.

This consulting was conducted as a preliminary inspection before conducting the completion inspection of the upcoming commercially available mobile hydrogen charging station. ▲ Optimizing the layout of safety facilities ▲ Securing safety around charging facilities ▲ Elimination of factors causing accidents ▲ Provision of safety management improvement measures, etc., 26 facilities standard and 19 safety improvement measures were conducted.

As mobile hydrogen charging stations are being installed for the first time in Korea, special attention is required for safety management.

10 people including Lee Yeon-jae, safety management director of Korea Gas Safety Corporation, six hydrogen safety experts and company officials participated in the consulting. The mobile hydrogen charging station is scheduled to go into operation after completion inspection in early March, with approvals at 3 locations in Ulsan city.

Mobile hydrogen charging stations have been expanded to include forklifts and other indoor logistics transport vehicles from the existing hydrogen charging stations’ charging targets limited to automobiles. It is designed in a structure that can be charged after moving and parking several places by installing all containers, compressors, and filling facilities on one large truck.

Mobile hydrogen charging stations have already been commercialized in Japan, and about 39 mobile charging stations are operating, but they have not been commercialized in the US or Europe yet.

Lee Yeon-jae, safety management director of Gas Safety Corporation, said, “In order to secure the safety of mobile hydrogen charging stations, which will be introduced for the first time in Korea, we will maintain a close cooperative relationship by listening to the voices of contractors and safety management sites as well as institutional technical support.” Through consulting, we will do our best to build a hydrogen charging station infrastructure that everyone can use safely and conveniently.”
