[지앤이타임즈] A task force team dedicated to building hydrogen safety infrastructure (TFT) was formed to successfully support the construction of the hydrogen industry ecosystem promoted by the government.

The Korea Gas Safety Corporation (President Hae-jong Lim), an agency in charge of hydrogen safety, organized a TFT under the supervision of the Hydrogen Safety Technology Institute under the construction and held the first meeting to improve the safety of hydrogen products.

36 employees from 9 departments including Safety Management Director Lee Yeon-jae of Gas Safety Corporation participate in the TFT, and Chungcheongbuk-do, Hyundai Motor Company, and Korea Transportation Safety Authority participate in external advisory services.

The Hydrogen Safety Infrastructure TFT will be in charge of establishing a hydrogen product inspection support center that performs safety management of hydrogen products and a hydrogen bus and charging station test and evaluation center that evaluates the safety performance of large hydrogen bus (commercial vehicle) parts and hydrogen charging station parts.

The Hydrogen Product Inspection Support Center performs safety inspection on four types of hydrogen products according to the enactment of the Hydrogen Act, including mobile and stationary fuel cells, water electrolysis facilities, and hydrogen extraction facilities.

In addition, the hydrogen bus/charging station test and evaluation center performs testing on containers and parts mounted on large hydrogen vehicles such as hydrogen buses, and on parts of hydrogen charging stations.

At the TFT meeting on this day, the detailed construction schedule and implementation plan of the hydrogen product inspection support center and the hydrogen bus/charging station test and evaluation center were reviewed.

In addition, discussions were underway to establish a hydrogen safety infrastructure, such as enacting and revising inspection standards for hydrogen products, a plan to establish an inspection process, and a plan to build a large-scale ultra-high pressure hydrogen container test facility.

The site of the hydrogen product inspection support center is currently under public offering, and the site of the hydrogen bus/charging station parts test and evaluation center will be built in Seongbon Industrial Complex, Eumseong-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do.

On the 4th of last month, the Corporation signed a business agreement with Eumseong-gun for the hydrogen bus test and evaluation center.

With this TFT configuration, the KTO plans to establish product development and inspection standards for hydrogen product inspection and hydrogen bus parts according to the enforcement of the hydrogen law through rapid construction of hydrogen safety infrastructure.

In addition, it plans to actively carry out work to expand the safety of hydrogen products, such as expanding inspection items for parts of hydrogen charging stations.

Hae-Jong Lim, President of Gas Safety Corporation, said, “We will build a hydrogen safety infrastructure more systematically and with a sense of speed through the formation of a TFT to support the activation of the hydrogen economy.”
