Gas Safety Corporation conducts preliminary consulting for safety improvement of mobile hydrogen charging stations for the first time in Korea

[코리아포스트 한글판 강세준기자] On the 25th, Korea Gas Safety Corporation’s safety management director Lee Yeon-jae conducted a safety consulting service for a mobile hydrogen charging station (manufacturer Hanyoung Technochem Co., Ltd., located in Gyeongju City, Gyeongbuk), which is scheduled to be installed in the Ulsan Free Regulatory Zone.

This consulting was conducted as a preliminary inspection before conducting the completion inspection of the mobile hydrogen charging station that will be commercialized soon. 26 facility standards including ▲ optimization of safety facility arrangement ▲ securing safety around charging facilities ▲ removal of accident-causing factors ▲ provision of safety management improvement measures 19 items and measures to improve safety were conducted.

As it is the first mobile hydrogen charging station installed in Korea, special attention is required for safety management.

10 people including Lee Yeon-jae, safety management director of Korea Gas Safety Corporation, six hydrogen safety experts and company officials participated in the consulting.

The mobile hydrogen charging station is scheduled to go into operation after completion inspection in early March, with approvals at 3 locations in Ulsan city.

Mobile hydrogen charging stations have been expanded to include forklifts and other indoor logistics transport vehicles from the existing hydrogen charging stations’ charging targets limited to automobiles. In addition, it is designed in a structure that can be charged after moving and parking several places by installing all containers, compressors and filling facilities on one large truck.

On the other hand, mobile hydrogen charging stations have already been commercialized in Japan, and about 39 mobile charging stations are operating, but it has not been commercialized in the US or Europe yet.

Lee Yeon-jae, safety management director of Korea Gas Safety Corporation, said, “We will maintain a close cooperative relationship by listening to the voices of contractors and safety management sites, as well as institutional and technical support for securing the safety of mobile hydrogen charging stations, which will be introduced for the first time in Korea.” With this preliminary consulting, we will do our best to build a hydrogen charging station infrastructure that everyone can use safely and conveniently.”
