Yesterday (1st) afternoon, near the Western-Yang Interchange on the Seoul-Yangyang Expressway.

On the highway turned into a snow field, vehicles turn on emergency lights and stop, and in the meantime, people walk through the snow.

[이지은/제보자 : (버스) 기사님이 저 앞에 졸음 쉼터 있으니까 걸어라도 좀 다녀오라고 하셔서…. 화장실도 졸음 쉼터 나오는 김에 해결할 사람 해결하고.]

Although a group of vehicles buried in snow were pushed together, they kept spinning only and the snowplow arrived late, but it is not enough to solve the road situation.

In sections where snow removal has not been performed, vehicles that have completely turned off are also noticeable.

From daytime yesterday, over 55 cm of snow accumulated in Misiryeong and over 29 cm in Bukgangneung.

Due to the belated snow removal work, two lanes on the Seoul-Yangyang Expressway to Seoul were opened from 10:00 p.m., but congestion continues in the 6km section, and only one lane on the Donghae Expressway is partially communicating.

The Korea Expressway Corporation explained that snow removal was not performed because a lot of snow fell in a short period of time, and snow removal vehicles were caught between ordinary vehicles.

Snow clouds are still developing, so it is expected that 10 to 40 cm, or 50 cm, of more snow will fall until this afternoon in Yeongdong, Gangwon-do.

In the Yeongseo area, up to 15cm by morning, 3~8cm snow was forecast in northern Gyeonggi, eastern Gyeonggi, and northern Gyeongbuk.

The Meteorological Administration said that this snow is heavy’wet’ because it absorbs the moisture of the East Sea.
