Galaxy S21 camera performance is behind the iPhone 12 and inferior to the S20

According to Dxomark on the 3rd, it scored 121 points in the recent camera benchmark test of the Galaxy S21 Ultra, ranking 17th among existing smartphones. DEXO Mark is a world-renowned camera and lens evaluation agency located in France. The evaluation is a method in which scores are set by taking more than 1500 photos and taking more than 2 hours of video.

With the recent upward leveling of smartphone specifications, camera performance is one of the most important evaluation factors of consumers. For this reason, all smartphone manufacturers are mounting induction-shaped modules, growing camera lenses, and reinforcing related software (software).

The Galaxy S21 series, which DEXO Mark tested this time, also featured camera performance as the core function when Samsung Electronics released it in January. In particular, the Galaxy S21 Ultra, the top model in the series, has a total of 5 cameras, including 4 rear cameras and 1 front camera.

With the auto focus function using a laser at 180 million pixels, all five cameras on the front and rear can take 4K video at 60 frames per second. Samsung Electronics explained that the zoom range of the two telephoto cameras of 3x and 10x optical is also significantly improved compared to the previous work, and the best shooting results can be obtained depending on the distance to the subject. Digital zoom can also be taken up to 100 times.

DEXO Mark also evaluated, “As a result of the Galaxy S21 Ultra test, both basic wide-angle and ultra-wide cameras look similar to the previous model, but there are some improvements, more stable focus, improved low-light shooting, and enhanced zoom range.

However, the story is completely different compared to the products of competitors released so far. DEXO Mark explained, “Galaxy S21 Ultra provides excellent camera performance, but it is lagging behind competing premium products,” and said, “It received a score lower than the previous Galaxy S20, which received 126 points unexpectedly.”

“The Samsung Galaxy series is excellent in many areas, but considering its position in the market, it should have scored at least 10 points higher than the current score, and a lot of improvement is needed.” We expect to be able to close the score gap with competing products.”

As of this day, Huawei Mate 40 Pro+ is currently ranking first with 139 points in the DXO Mark ranking. The iPhone 12 Pro Max ranks 6th after Huawei, Xiaomi, and Vivo series.

The iPhone series has been ahead of the Samsung Galaxy series in the DXO Mark evaluation several times and has been given the qualifier as’the best phone camera’ from users, but it is currently being pushed by Chinese manufacturers.
