At the ‘2020 New Year’s Meeting of Standards Related Organizations’ held at the El Tower in Yangjae-dong, Seoul in January of last year, officials from standards-related institutions are shouting fighting.

The government will promote public-private collaboration to strengthen the global market competitiveness of related industries and create new markets through carbon-neutral standardization.

The National Agency for Technology and Standards of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced on the afternoon of the 22nd that it will hold a kick-off meeting of the Carbon Neutral Standardization Strategy Council to establish the ‘2050 Carbon Neutral Standardization Strategy’ at the El Tower in Seocho-gu, Seoul.

The conference includes co-chairpersons of Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction, Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction CEO Jeong Yeon-in and Kookpyo Lee Sang-hoon, POSCO, Hyundai Oilbank, Sampyo, Seokwang Industries, etc. Research groups such as Korea Institute of Industrial Technology and Korea Institute of Energy Research, and related organizations such as Korea Energy Agency, Korea Standards Association, and Korea Smart Grid Association will attend.

The standardization strategy council consists of a general committee and four subcommittees: energy conversion, new promising low-carbon industry, low-carbon conversion core industry, and standardization base reinforcement, with the goal of establishing a strategy by the end of the year.

The 2050 carbon-neutral standardization strategy is expected to serve as a guide for technology development by suggesting implementation methods and test evaluation criteria for low-carbon technologies by industry.

The energy conversion standardization field includes generation, storage, and transmission technologies for new and renewable energy such as power generation such as solar and wind power, energy storage devices, and distributed power grids including direct current (DC) distribution.

The council will share the trend and necessity of carbon-neutral standardization at the kick-off meeting on this day and discuss ways to establish a carbon-neutral standardization strategy.

POSCO (Steel), Hyundai Oilbank (Petrochemical), Sampyo (cement), and Seokwang Industries (machines and valves) decided to discover standardization tasks related to the use of alternative fuels such as green hydrogen, material recycling, production structure conversion, and process efficiency improvement. .

The Institute for Mechanical Electrical and Electronic Tests presents a test bed construction plan for the demonstration of technology developed by a testing and certification institution, improvement of the efficiency of household electric appliances, and energy big data standardization tasks through smart meters.

The Korea Energy Agency and Egi-yeon are planning to discover new and renewable energy materials and parts standardization tasks. The Smart Grid Association collects opinions from Korea Electric Power, Southeast Power, and Korea University to establish a distributed power network according to the new and renewable energy system connection, and also seeks to standardize energy storage devices (secondary batteries) and electric and hydrogen electric vehicles.

The company plans to present a carbon footprint (carbon emissions by product) to cope with overseas carbon border measures and green financial systems, as well as standardization tasks for remanufacturing and material reuse to realize a circular economy.

The Standards Association promotes a standardization support match-up project that helps start-ups and small and medium-sized companies standardize, and proposes ways to support carbon-neutral standardization cooperation activities with major developed countries.
