The New York Times (NYT) reported on the 26th (local time) that some countries that purchased Chinese vaccines in the early stages of the coronavirus infection (Corona 19) pandemic are suffering from controversy about efficacy and delays in delivery.

According to NYT, as a report that Chinese vaccines are less effective than Pfizer-Bioentech or Modena vaccines, distrust about the efficacy is growing in each country.

In fact, in the Philippines, some lawmakers have criticized the government for deciding to purchase a corona vaccine from Chinese pharmaceutical company Sinovac. Singapore and Malaysia are working hard to appease public opinion that they will only receive vaccinations after they have proven safe and effective.

Former Singaporean Foreign Minister Villahari Kaushikan said, “We don’t have enough data on the vaccine right now. We won’t get any Chinese vaccines right now.”

Initially, the immune effect of Chinese vaccines was known to be over 90%, but a study found that it was only 68% in Indonesia and 78% in Brazil. Recently, the results showed that the immune effect of Chinese vaccines was only over 50%, according to NYT.

In Turkey and Brazil, delays in delivery of Chinese vaccines are a problem. Turkey has promised its citizens that 10 million doses of Chinese vaccines will be supplied by December last year. However, the amount secured by the beginning of this month was only 3 million. China has recently revealed that concerns over the re-spread of Corona 19 have increased in some regions as the reason for the delay in delivery.

In Brazil, paperwork is delaying delivery of raw materials to produce Chinese vaccines. Ultimately, Brazil recently imported 2 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine produced in India.

Sinobag, a Chinese pharmaceutical company, has signed purchase contracts with at least 24 countries, mainly in Africa and Asia, with low prices. NYT said, “Countries that have not purchased Pfizer, Moder, or vaccine will have no choice but to rely on Chinese vaccines because there is no alternative. Countries that have purchased Chinese vaccines will take longer to conquer the coronavirus.” Told.
