When the European Medicines Agency (EMA) judged that AstraZeneca (AZ)’s novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19) vaccine had a greater benefit than the risk of side effects, each country showed mixed reactions.

The leaders of France and Italy immediately declared “rubber”, and the British Health Minister also urged the vaccination, saying the AZ vaccine is still safe.

Lithuania, on the other hand, said it would stop vaccinating until the EMA’s final conclusion on the AZ vaccine was reached.

According to Reuters, French President Emmanuel Macron and Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi said in a joint statement on the 16th (local time) that “the EMA’s preliminary position that came out today is encouraging.”

They added that they are ready to resume AZ vaccine vaccination if the EMA draws a positive conclusion.

French Prime Minister Jean Castex said he was willing to get the vaccine once the EMA concludes that the AZ vaccine is safe.

British Health Minister Matt Hancock also said, “Currently, the AZ vaccine is saving several lives in the UK,” he said.

On the other hand, Lithuania announced today that it would stop AZ vaccination until the EMA’s final conclusions were reached.

Until now, Lithuania has only stopped using certain batches of this vaccine.

Lithuanian health officials explained, “In the past few hours, three cases of severe and unexpected blood clots have occurred in patients who received the AZ vaccine in Korea, and it was decided to stop the vaccination.”

He added that it is unclear whether the clot was caused by the AZ vaccine or was coincidental.

EMA reaffirmed its previous position that there were no signs that the AZ vaccine caused blood clots that day.

On the 18th, a meeting on the risks of the AZ vaccine will be held and a conclusion will be made.
